What age did you move to toddler bed?

Hi mums and dads!

No bashing please, my son is 1 year old and still won't sleep in his cot for more than a couple of hours. We've had a sleep assessment from hv, we've tried sleep training, putting him down isn't the issue it's how much he fidgets and moves that is! He does not stop moving in his sleep ever! So he's forever banging his head in his cot and getting arms and legs stuck (he won't sleep in a sleeping bag) so we've coslept. We even bought a queen size bed for the space and little one sleeps between me and partner. The other night I woke up to little one in his sleep rolling up on top of me and before I had time to react he fell off our bed (first time ever) thankfully my dressing gown and a spare pillow was there so he didn't hurt himself but obviously scared himself waking up like that! Since then I have not slept a wink as I'm constantly up watching him in our bed and the amount of times he nearly goes off the bottom is unreal he just rolls around everywhere whilst fast asleep! Even as a newborn before he could roll he would constantly move around his next2me crib and when he's awake he doesn't sit still ever... he sleeps a dream in our bed and will sleep through, so I'm thinking of getting him a bed but obviously he's at risk of falling out... so was thinking bed guards? He's my first baby so I have no idea and I coslept with my dad till I was 4 and my youngest sister who's 3 still cosleeps with my dad and her mum so advice is lacking ha! I need sleep again but I don't know what to do! Any advice is welcome, but please no bashing about the bed suggestion I just want him to be safe and comfortable and cosleeping isn't working anymore.

Thanks

You could try a bed with bed guards or have the mattress on the floor so that I he rolls off he won't hurt himself.

Floor bed in his room instead of a cot?

Literally a mattress on the floor will do. Make sure the room is totally baby proofed and stick a stair gate on the door.

DS1 climbed out of his cot about 22 months.
DS2 climbed out of his cot at 19 months....
They went into toddler beds then.
DS2 fell out once, I think. DS1 fell out at least once a night for ages (like months and months).

I would look at putting the mattress on the floor, or bed guards - although these rarely cover the whole length of the bed, so if he is too wiggly, he might wiggle to the foot of the bed where the guard isn't. We put the cot mattress on the floor under the toddler bed - and because it was a toddler bed, it wasn't very far to fall anyway.

Older two kids both went into toddler beds from Cot at 3.5 years old.
21 month old is still in her cot

I think 1 is a bit young. If he is rolling all over the cot then I he is likely to just a roll out of bed. Mattress on the floor sounds like a good shout if you really don't want him in a cot but keeping him in the cot sounds like a better option. If he rolls off mattress or out of bed you won't get any sleep either.

Both my boys went into full sized beds from a cot at around 16/17 months

10 months here 😱 The little sod used to pull herself up & throw her head over the side of the cot so her body followed (was quite intriguing to see done!). Two trips to A&E later, Dr suggested toddler bed with mattress on the floor - we decided against the bed guard because of her ability to climb 😬 She slept better in the bed. She went into a full single bed at 14 months

Sometimes their spacial awareness develops better in a bed. DD was all over the place in her cot; she fell out of the bed twice & after that was fine

Yes we have a video monitor and a stair gate anyway but will double check baby proofing.... may try the mattress on the floor first, I was happy cosleeping (well not entirely but accepted it ha), but after the other night it just isn't safe as our bed is quite high too and if he goes off the end or anything and hurts himself I'd never forgive myself! Thanks everyone going to look about and look at my options but reassuring people have done it this age xx
