Massively noisy baby!

Hello there

Just a quick one; does anyone else have a baby that’s hella noisy when they sleep? My 5 week old makes a noise like the cross between a band saw and an angry hornet at regular points in the night.

We are so lucky that he doesn’t really fully wake except at 1am and 5:30am but I’m nervous about missing anything if I put in earplugs.

I also read somewhere noisy babies are related to premature deliveries...DS was born at 39w and nearly 4kg but was covered in vernix and had breathing issues at birth. They’ve corrected now but I am starting to think I should’ve maybe held out for a VBAC...

Anyway, sorry, it’s a brain dump. How do you guys deal with a baby that’s sleeping but hella loud?!

Most babies are really loud I think. I know mine were and so were my friend's babies. 39 weeks is not premature at all.

Absolutely - 39 weeks is term but as I come from a family where granny was a “10 month mama” three times over and DD reluctantly arrived at 42w it’s set my paranoia alight.

DD was never this noisy, squeaks and snuffles but this one’s like someone’s demoing the latest range from Black & Decker

I am afraid I had to move DS our of our room when he was a couple of days old. It was like having an excited pig next to me and I couldn't sleep at all.

He was 41+6 so definitely not premature!

I am a really light sleeper so having him in the next room with the doors open was fine for us as I still bolted upright as soon as he made a sound.

DD was much quieter. Or I didn't wake up as easily, or I was just a bad mother by then. Not sure which

My second was definitely noisier than my first. He was put in his room at 9 weeks due to this exact reason!!

Babies grunt like crazy in their sleep. My DS did from about 4-13 weeks. He would grunt and flail about even though his eyes were closed and he was sleeping. It was loud enough to keep me awake and after about 2am he woke himself up with the grunting so the only way he would settle was in with me sometimes. I’ve spoke to a lot of people who went through a similar thing, all said their babies grew out of it by about 3/4 months. Just their wee bodies learning how to work.

I did use earplugs, I needed to to get sleep. DS wasn’t a great sleeper at that stage anyway, and I’m BFing so didn’t want to move him to his own room as only meant further to walk. I never once missed anything with the earplugs in. I continued to use them untill we moved DS into his own room about 3 weeks ago. I also had white noise playing all night as it helped him sleep. So even over the white noise and the ear plugs I still heard when he needed me every time. It just took the edge off the snuffling/grunting and stopped me being woken every 15 mins

In a way I should be happy. I’m mostly ok with parenting but I’ve got real hangups about sleep: DD slept so soundly and deeply to detect her breathing was hard at times. At least DS and I appear to have a psychic understanding that when I do get worried he’ll emit the noise of a V2 and my heart will stop racing for a bit x

DS used to sound exactly like my dreaming dog in the first couple of weeks. Never imagined a baby would be so loud!

My DD sounded like a dragon hatching in a sty with a family of truffle pigs. It stopped at around 9 weeks, I think.

From when my baby was a few weeks old we started playing rain white noise all night. It blocked out the grunting etc and was pretty relaxing for everyone!
