7 month old up at 5am every morning

Morning, any advice my 7 month old is up at 5am every morning. This is fine as he goes down around 7 each night but he then has an hour nap at 6.30am because he's tired. When he stirs around 4.30 I give him his dummy and try and just coax his back to sleep but he doesn't have any of it. Any advice?

No advice but DS is 6 months and exactly the same so I am following with interest.

Did your problem start with the clocks changing? DS seemed to adjust for the first week but since then it’s veen 5/5:30 starts every morning 😭

Yes clocks changing seems to be the cause I think. Hopefully somebody has some advice or tricks for us

Sorry if obvious but have you tried giving a feed and then putting back down? Treating as a night feed technically

TheWiseOldElf · 14/11/2017 07:10

I’ve tried feeding back to sleep but no dice. I also have 2 older children so I don’t even get to go back to sleep once he’s having his first nap of the day (now).

Yes he is just wide awake. Somebody has just suggested on my Facebook page that I push the bedtime back by an hour?

@Naomi2007 I think you’ll find it’s a phase but you could try making bedtime later

lornathewizzard · 14/11/2017 11:17

How’s the daytime sleeping?

TheWiseOldElf · 14/11/2017 11:43

Mine naps fine. He is still having 4-5 short (30mins-1 hour) naps each day. Currently usually 5 because he's ready for a nap at 7ish after his early start.

Naomi2007 · 14/11/2017 11:53

He normally has an hour nap in the morning sometimes longer and an hour nap around 2pm. Not massively long naps considering he's up for so long

I had this for a couple of weeks with my 6 month old. On a friend’s advice I attached a soft toy to the cot bars for DD to entertain herself with upon waking. I’d go in and pop on her nightlight and she’d play a bit and eventually go back to sleep. So could you try some in-cot entertainment?

Do you have blackout blinds? Is the room warm enough? Baby might be waking early if a bit cold.

FATEdestiny · 14/11/2017 20:25

Does baby wake in the night?

If not I'd try a wake>feed>resettle as you go to bed, say 11am.add in a nappy change to properly wake baby up. This acts like a 'restart' button for the night.

I'd pretend the clocks have changed again and move everything an hour forward!
