6 month old stopped sleeping - worst night ever

That's it really, managed about 2 hours in total from 930 until now. She had another 2.5 hours from 7-930.
She was sleeping quite well with solid block from 7-about 11 and then 11-2 and then 1-3 wakings after 2 until about 6. Would feed for about 20 mins and straight back to sleep. Started waking more at the weekend and not settling so well and just got worse until no sleep tonight. What am I doing wrong?

I doubt you’re doing anything wrong, you just have a baby. They go through stages. Remember they are little humans, they can be off colour or just having a bad night, in the same way that we do. Could it be teething? Just needing s but mute comfort from you.

It’s hard, but so normal I’m afraid. You could try sleep training if you’re comfortable with it, or co-sleep do you’re not up and down all night at least.

Thanks Lozmatoz, I know it's normal really and she's going through a lot at the moment, started really rolling over, trying to crawl and even had a go at standing yesterday with her walker. I think she's teething too - so all in all I shouldn't be surprised. i was expecting some disturbed nights but perhaps not such a regular pattern of waking every hour, feels a bit like she' a new born again. I have brought her in to the bed the last couple of mornings at about 5 and she then sleeps through until 7.30 which gives me a couple of hours at least - I just am now worried about her wanting to sleep in with me rather than trying to settle in her own cot. Love her to bits though so it's all worth it.

no idea but my 6mo is the same. I’m now bouncing/singing to sleep instead of feeding. it hasn’t fixed it but I’m hopeful that to break his boob need want will help him to self settle more. i think he’s a little bit better so far. i did have to cuddle him while he screamt in my face for 40 min the first time i did this but it’s been better since! i think it’s just a phase though and he’ll sleep through when he’s ready so I’m trying not to get stressed about it.

I am just getting myself in a dither over the exact same thing this week! 6 months old and was sleeping quite well but suddenly is only going from 8pm to 11pm and then is awake and fussing until about 4am where he'lldoze for about an hour and then is wide awake! He's getting over tired and cranky during the day (as am I) but even his day time naps are about 15 mins before he's awake again. I'm so relieved it's not just me

How do you get her to go to sleep at bedtime mueslihero? And what happens at these night wakes?

Thanks everyone - nice to know I'm not the only one. Sat night was quite good - went all the way from 7.30 to 4.30 but last night back to every hour and at 1am to 2am every 5-15 mins. Am exhausted. Started solids yesterday so think that may be making her even more cranky. She's been very tearful today which is unlike her.

Fate I'm afraid I feed her to sleep which I know is what I have to break What happens when she wakes tends to cry from needing short feed, long feed, blowing raspberries and general playing.

Annabel I feel for you I am beyond knackered and it's really starting to take its toll on me.

Usually it is becasue they are in pain or ill.
I feel sorry for next door neighbours, their daughter cries most of the night and has done since birth 6 months ago. She wakes me up every single hour, I don't care because I don't have to get up but mum is looking gaunt and totally exhausted.

This could be an entire manner of things haha! If she’s learnt to roll over, trying to crawl and pull herself up her brain is constantly thinking about all these new exciting thing, add to the mix the introduction of solids and then also potential teething it’s a great mixture for sleepless nights! My dd is also 6mo and she wakes at like 4am to talk loudly and blow raspberries and try to sit up.... yay. I feel for you but things will improve :) good luck x

You really don’t have to break the feed to sleep at all. It’s very hard work to do that anyway! Do you lay her straight down after the feed? Can you feed her to sleep on your bed and leave her there for a while? Then transfer when you go to bed?

Up again with a raspberry blowing hyper alert baby. Yawn.
crazy i have started putting her in the bed next to me sometimes. She often sleeps better like that but I'm worried it teaches bad habits for later.

My 6 month old son has gone from being a champion sleeper - straight in his cot at night after a feed and sleeping through - to screaming at bed time and nap times Also waking at stupid o'clock in the morning full of beans. I think it's a developmental thing as others said, what with rolling and trying to crawl etc...seems 6 months is a popular age for sleep to go to pot.

Could she be hungry? Milk is not enough which is why we wean at six months, yet she's probably not getting the solids down her as it's so new. So you're in an awkward transition.

Yes Herb I think hunger may be a part of it - she's started sleeping a bit better the past couple of nights now I'm giving her more solids - I hate the idea she may have been hungry for the past couple of weeks. Nektaria am enjoying a beer as she's been asleep for a couple of hours YAY.

Babies get far more calories from milk than from solids (which tend me be vegetable purees and the like). It’s a real myth that suddenly starting solids will fill babies up more. Also, bad habits really aren’t anything to worry about. My 9 month old spends some of the night in her cot and some in my bed, she used to never go in her cot. Give it time and just do whatever it takes to get the most rest.

My 7 month old has been fussy for a few weeks at night but worse the last week or so, her first tooth has just broken through this morning so fingers crossed it will get better now! She also tries to crawl in her cot etc which doesn't help though!

She's now waking at 930 11ish 2 and 4. She goes back down quite easily apart from 4 where she now stays up talking a playing for about an hour and a half. She's up now, hence the post. Is this normal?
