How does your DC settle themselves

My 5 month old turns his head from side to side rubbing the back of his head against the mattress. When he started doing this I thought “what is wrong with him!” But he now does it all the time when he’s settling himself to sleep.

Does anyone else’s little ones do this?

It's great that he's found a way to settle himself already at 5 months!

Neither of mine do this. But my eldest rubs her hand against her shoulder blade inside her PJs. The youngest is 10 months and has just started playing with one ear when falling asleep.

There are so many different ways they come up with to soothe themselves!

My DD used to do the head rubbing thing too. She has always self settled, now she's 1 she sort of grabs hold of her blanket and snuggles it. She's so independent already and never wants cuddling

Mine rubs a muslin against his face and occasionally chews it (also 5 months)

My 5 month old does this (as well as needing a dummy and to be swaddled!)

Yhe head threashing this is more of an over-tired sign than a settling mechanism. Like eye rubbing and eat pulling, for example.

My eldest used to do this.
