5wk old wakes herself pooing/farting at night

DD had been sleeping well between feeds at night but now wakes herself very often when she is straining to poo/fart. She seems quite distressed with it but nappies are normal.

It doesn't seem to happen as much during the day but she isn't on her back as much then (sleeps on me or in sling mostly). She is bf on demand.

Any ideas on what might cause it and what we can do to help her?

Being 5 weeks old causes it.

It's one of many many phases and will pass. Don't worry!

Nooo, that's now what I want to hear! Was hoping it would be a very quick phase (optimist)
Why do you think it's only at night?

It could be a quick phase, but it may as well not be. Who knows.
I think it just freaks them out.

If it’s any help she may poo a little less as she gets older. At 4 months my LOs record was 12 days without a poo. Others poo after every feed. It’s a poo lottery.

Hi OP, what helped me with this is. I started playing rain white noise all night - baby slept better and so did we! Give it a go, there’s an app called soundsleeper xx
