Best white noise product

I know this has been done before but the thread is quite old.

I've been using you tube white noise on my 7 week old which does seem to have a calming effect.
But I want my phone back!

I keep seeing adverts on Facebook for myhummy but they are pretty expensive so I want to see what other people recommend.
Although I can't put a price on sleep!

Hmm. We do use an app as I have the white noise on constantly - all the products tend to last 20-45 minutes and without fail my baby would wake up at the end of it! So I play it all night!

I have the Marpac Hushh and it ticks all the boxes I wanted - it plugs in to charge, but also runs all night off battery once charged. It's small enough to take on holiday or put in the buggy. It had three noises - two white noise (like a fan) and one waves.

We also have a Marpac one, but a more expensive version that you plug in to the mains. You can adjust the volume and pitch of the noise. It's actually for DH though! We've had it for 8 years and it's still going strong.

We've got Ewan the dream sheep and while DD is definitely soothed by it, the fact that it switches off after about 15 mins is a pain. I have to stealthily creep back into the room and press the button to reset it before it switches off. I only do this until I'm sure she's in a deep enough sleep not to stir when it does switch off.

I looked at the My Hummy but it's too expensive for what it is IMO. Ewan was only £30. We've used it from about 5 weeks old and she's 6 months now so has had a lot of time to get used to the sound and associate it with sleep.

It you have an old smartphone or tablet download the app onto that. We use one called sound sleeper. You have to pay a couple of £ to get the continuous play version but it's worth it. Lots of different sounds to experiment with.

I did the same as you with DD, phone plugged in and on all night! I'm pregnant again now and planning on forking out for the My Hummy, I know it's expensive but I swore by the white noise for DD so think it'll be worth it.

Sound sleeper on an old iPad here too!

Just to add I did have a cheap white noise machine that ran off battery but it was on timer and batteries kept dying so found it no good in the end.

£10 detuned analogue radio.

We bought a machine from Amazon for around £20 that plugs into mains, definitely the best thing ever. Ewan can't be washed in the machine so that was a definite no and although may speak highly of MyHummy, I felt it was a lot to spend if it didn't work.

Our machine is relatively portable, does white noise, brown noise, rainfall, sea etc and volume can go up pretty loud if needed. It plays continuously so can't hear the loop at all. There are quite a few similar ones available, a friend has another brand and is equally happy with hers

How about a Bluetooth speaker to play the sound through from your phone? Then that can go near the baby and you can use your phone

The MyHummy is brilliant as it goes off and comes back on when it senses baby move. It lasts all night too. It’s worth the money for sure.

We've had a Ewan since DS was a few weeks old and it still helps to soothe him age 5! We used to have to press the button a few times but after a while once was enough.

I had Ewan and MyHummy. Ditched both for an app played through Bluetooth speaker. Can you use an iPad/tablet? Lots of variety on the sleep apps. I found DS used to cycle through the train, plane and car sounds depending on what mood was is in. We have now moved away from white noise to classical music, it seems his tastes change every few weeks.

Ewan and MyHummy are restricted to only 4/5 sounds and I found MyHummy drained batteries pretty quick and the sensor didn't really work and only came back on about 5 minutes after baby stirred.

Oh and I found Ewan and MyHummy didn't go loud enough for DS, he likes it quite loud.

The SleepySounds app was a life saver with our twins!

Noisli. You can tailor the sounds.

We recorded us shushing onto the baby monitor and would play that.

I use Johnson’s baby sleep app. It has loads of sounds to play. I put it on my iPad at home or on my phone if out and about.

The Bluetooth speaker is a good idea though. I have Ewan the sheep but hardly use it. For the price I think it is pretty rubbish.

During the night, we got into the habbit of having the fan on all night. It keeps DC asleep whilst we potter about downstairs

We recently bought Ollie the Owl, cheaper than the MyHummy but still has the sleep sensor which has been great. The sensor does turn off after three hours if we’re lucky enough that DS sleeps that long but it’s been really helpful otherwise.
