Is my toddler napping too late?

DD is 22 months and has just started attending playgroup class 10:30-12:30 every day. Her daily schedule is below. My question is, is this nap too late in the afternoon? We've been doing it like this for a few weeks and she seems OK but I'm worried it will start to effect her nighttime sleep?

6:30/6:45 AM wake up
7:30 breakfast
10:30-12:30 playgroup
1 PM lunch
1:45 - 3:30 PM nap
6:15 PM dinner
7:30/7:45 PM bedtime

If my 22mo sleeps beyond 1pm then I struggle to get her to bed at 7pm so your dds nap time would be way too late here, yes

insancerre · 08/09/2017 06:31

There really is no right or wrong, the question is does it work for you?
If she is ol gping to bed then I wouldn't worry too much
She will naturally drop the afternoon nap soon anyway

From 2-3 my DD napped for 1.5 to 2 hours between 1-3pm and then went to bed at 7pm and always slept through til at least 7am. If it's working at the moment then stick to it, I'd only change if her sleep started to suffer.

Up until about 2.5 years old, my toddler would sleep between roughly 12:30-3:30 and would be down by 7/7:30 that evening. She's 3 and still really does need a nap, although it is affecting her bed time. But I'd rather she went to bed later than was a demon in the afternoon because of tiredness

I should add yes so far it's working and she is ready to sleep at 7:30 PM.

insancerre what age do they drop naps normally! Dreading that day Confused

As long as it works it's fine, there's no need to change it until it affects her bedtime. My DD dropped her nap at 22 months Envy, and before that if she slept for 1 minute after 1pm she wouldn't go down at bedtime (7:30).

Enjoy it .
My 18,month old has dropped her naps :'(
Hasn't napped since 16 months in the day

Popskipiekin · 08/09/2017 07:28

OP think it depends with the naps. DS started becoming harder and harder to put down for a nap at around 2.7, taking longer to get to sleep and complaining about it. He would still sleep for 1+ hours and I encouraged it as had a small baby. Finally he would not go down at all around 2.9. But if we are out in the buggy any time after 3pm he will still sleep and I let him, and bedtime (7/7.30) isn't ruined.

Just carry on as you are until a problem actually arises- then you might want to look at it.
At the moment she's ready for bed at a reasonable time so don't worry!

I work with children in a nursery
The can drop their naps any time from about 1 to 4 years
Normally, its about 2
It is a horrible time of transition, though, when some days they need a neo and go down willingly to other days when they don't need a nap but it does catch up with them later in the day
You just have to ride it out :)

AnnaT45 · 08/09/2017 07:33

I think that sounds fine! I know Some people really like them in bed by 7 but I prefer a break in that day and a slightly later bedtime.

My dad is 3 in December, she sleeps 7.30-7/7.30 and still has a 1.5 hour nap in the afternoon, she needs it as she's quite active! She also goes to nursery for three full days which wipes her out a bit!

MrsPringles · 08/09/2017 11:17

My just turned 3 year old sleeps reliably 1-4pm on non nursery days and still sleeps 7-7 at nights no problem.

I guess he is super tired from no sleep at nursery.

He's off to nursery school next week 5 mornings a week and he's going to have a bit of a shock I think Confused

InDubiousBattle · 08/09/2017 21:58

If she's happy I'd go with it!

My ds is 3.9 and 1 day a week (full pre school day)he doesn't nap, every other day he'll nap for a hours if we're home!
