4.5 Month crap day naps...

Son sleeps great at night, but his day naps are now only 30-40mins with the odd rare 1.5hrs.
We have a good day routine, he goes down and falls asleep with dummy fine, it's just that he wakes right up. I watch awake time of 1.25-1.75hrs between naps, but with shorter naps it feels like such a short and frustrating cycle.
I sit by him and try to see if he'll go back to sleep but he's wide awake.

Should I be doing anything else?

Sounds exactly like my daughter, who is now 18 months and has dropped all naps completely Hmm

If he's not cranky the rest of the time he might just be one of those who doesn't need so much nap time. Like your DS my DD is brilliant at night and always has been.

Sounds just like my five month old!

Thanks both, part of me feels bad grumbling as I am very lucky with him at nights but the lack of day naps is really getting to me! Just wanted to check if should be doing anything else, have tried helping try to link his cycles with motion, dummy reinsertion (feel like a dummy ninja sometimes Smile ) but he still just wakes. Before he was doing more 1.5 and the odd 2hr nap so it's literally in the last couple weeks change...

There is what is known as a 4 month sleep regression apparently. I did t go through it with my little man as he didn't sleep much in the first place! However, I did a lot of research because of this and at around that age they start to change and consolidate their sleep patterns. There is a lot of info available online if you do a google search.

My nine month old was like this until around six months. He also slept well at night but couldn't "join" sleep cycles during the day - a forty minute nap seemed like a win.

Suddenly one day he just started sleeping longer and is now pretty good at long naps, although can still occasionally be hit and miss.

Anyway, I dont think there's a magic answer. It's probably more of a developmental thing and you just need to give him time.

My DS will only do long naps in his cot, by the way... the buggy and car seat are more of a challenge. I'm hoping that will improve in time too! Good luck!

Hi Ronnie, am aware of the 4 month regression and believe me, did loads of reading in preparation for it!! Smile
It's the fact that only the day naps have changed and within the last week (re-checked by logging app) that he's now doing such short day naps.
