Phantom baby noises on monitor

My five month old dd has actually gone to sleep earlier than me for once so I'm using the video monitor.

I'm watching her sleeping soundly but every now and again hear a faint baby crying or making noise. Is this normal interference or do I have a ghost in the house?

Is it picking up a neighbours monitor? I've known this to happen before, especially in terraced/semi detached houses.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 30/08/2017 21:46

Well it's definitely not a ghost, so I think it must be interference Smile do any of your neighbours have babies?
Also congratulations on the sleeping baby!

Gem1010 · 30/08/2017 21:46

Haha this made me giggle.

If my daughter made noises when I turned it off. It would remember them and when I turned it back on it would make the noise again yet she would be fast asleep haha. Used to frighten me no end!

I'm sure it's just interference. Although sometimes I think having the monitors makes you think you hear them because you're listening for it.

It's even more freaky when you watch the video and little specs of dust fly past the camera! Imagination overload!!!

bitofabelly · 30/08/2017 21:48

Be careful about what you say about your neighbours in the baby's room..someone else might be listening to you!!

NYConcreteJungle · 30/08/2017 21:50

I remember being careful about what I said in the nursery as my neighbour had a baby a few weeks before me. It will be someone else's baby OP.

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 21:51

I'm in a detached house and the one next door is empty. No other babies nearby that I know of.

I was joking I know rationally that ghosts aren't real. But it's quite unnerving! Grin

peaceloveandbiscuits thanks! She's normally a night owl so nice to have time to myself.

Change the channel on the monitor and receiver.

NannyR · 30/08/2017 21:55

This once happened to me when I was working overnight with a baby. In the middle of the night I woke up to hear a baby crying and a man's voice saying "shhh be quiet", I flew upstairs to see a peaceful sleeping baby, then realised that it was the next door neighbours monitor.

I've also had a weird thing happen when I've looked after a baby that's been crying and fussy a lot; when they've finally gone to sleep I can still hear the crying in my head as I'm trying to get to sleep.

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 22:00

NannyR that's terrifying!

Will look up how to change the channels, thanks all Smile

Gem1010 that is frightening! It freaks me out when she wakes up and looks right at the camera. They glow in the night vision Confused

I used to pick up taxis quite a lot until I realised you could change the channel. It freaked me out for ages though.

Girty999 · 30/08/2017 22:09

I still hear shouts of 'mum' when the boys are at school, I think sometimes your head goes a bit mad xx

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 22:15

Haha HabbyHadno

Tbh this is strengthening my resolve to keep her in our bedroom. I can't be doing with this kind of thing waking me up at night! Shock

Our Baby monitor used to Pick up the Locsl shop 3 doors down. Every time someone entered the shop we would hear a loud doorbell Noise (they had one to let them know someone was entering the shop) and then a few seconds of people talking. Really creeped us out as it we Moved in when DD was 5 weeks old, we thought it was haunted at first, saw the funny side but Got a different one in the end!

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 22:29

Scoleah Grin loving all these anecdotes!

troodie my parents got the fright of their lives when I was a baby (mid 80s) and they heard this big, gruff man's voice swearing over the monitor. It was picking up a taxi radio Grin

gandalfspants · 30/08/2017 22:43

I hear phantom baby noises lots. I kept thinking I could hear her today and she was at nursery (no neighbours with babies).

I think my brain is just hypersensitive an interpreting other sounds wrong.

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 22:51

AgentCooper gosh I bet they did!

gandalfspants I already have the baby brain Confused this is not helping matters.

My monitor does this, makes noises like she is stirring when she isn't ( I quite often forget to turn it off after her naps and it happens when she is sat right in front of me so definitely can't be stirring upstairs!). I've got used to it now but it used to freak me out.

I live in the middle of nowhere so it's definitely not interference from another house. I suspect it's flies going past the speaker or interference from the wifi etc
