4am wake up

20 month old has begun waking at 4am. Nothing has worked to try and get him back to sleep at that time and he screams and tantrums until we get up for breakfast.

We transitioned him to a bed about 6 weeks ago and since then he has been getting up gradually earlier until this week 4am.

This is leaving him tired throughout the day. He has been having a two hour nap in the morning and occasionally a 20 minute nap in the afternoon.

Have bought a gro clock to try.
Tried feeding him before bed incase he was hungry, this made little difference.
He is very active and goes to bed no bother most nights.
He generally goes down about 7. I have tried later bed times but this has made for earlier wake ups?
Considered putting him back in a cot but feel this isn't going to solve the problem just contain it.
He has blackout curtains and room is fairly dark!

Any advice at all appreciated?

20 months is very young for not having a cot. I would put back in a cot. My chikdren have all been around their 3rd birthday before moving 3yo a bed.

Children can get a suprising about if security from the protected feeling the cot sides bring. I think the later you leave the change, the better able the child will be to cope.
