Dropping to one nap at 10mo?

10mo DS dropped from three to two naps per day a few months ago but the last few days he's only taking one nap at about 10/11am, lasting about an hour and forty minutes. He's then up til bedtime and seems to be coping well.

I'm just wondering if this is normal? Should I be encouraging another nap? I have tried but he wasn't having it.

There's another thread on the go just now about the same topic and everyone else's DCs seem to have dropped to one nap a lot later! It's made me a bit concerned...

Thanks Smile

The key tired signs I look for is baby being clingy (insisting on being held or carried) or grumpy (crying, whingy) when awake. I basically work on the premise that I expect all awake time (or at least 95% of it) to be happy-awake time when baby is happy to independently roll around on the floor playing.

So if baby is happy, non clingy, non grumpy and independent whilst awake on 1-nap days, then I would be confident my child wouldn't need any more sleep.

Clingy and whingy (and jumpy) is exactly how DS gets when he's tired. That's why I was surprised that he managed to go the entire day until bedtime in a good mood! By bedtime he was definitely tired and went to sleep immediately - he didn't fight it at all.

Thanks Fate, I'll see how he gets on for the next few days. Fingers crossed - the second nap was a real issue when he was at nursery as he always seemed to want it just as we picked him up, so I'd be glad to see the back of it.
