Four Month Changing Sleep Pattern

Hello, my 4 month old had got into a pretty decent sleeping routine (bath 20.30, feed 21.00, sleep 21.30/22.00 and two night feeds around 01.30 and 04.30 before waking at 07.00). He would go down very easily after each feed. I was quite happy to go to bed myself around 21.30 (rock and roll), so everyone was happy. We even had a few nights recently of 4.5 hours between feeds and one miracle of 6 hours.

I don't know what's happened this week. I had prepared myself for the four month sleep regression, but was not expecting him to now fall asleep at 19.30! First feed is now around 23.00, with subsequent feeds around 02.30 and 04.30 with a 05.30 wake up. Furthermore, his sleep is far more restless after we put him down and more often, he will start fussing about 10 minutes after putting him down and needs to be soothed again.

What do people do with such an early bed time? He's 4 months old, so under the recommended age to be left in a room by himself, he is a risk of waking if we keep him in the same room as us (from general cooking/TV noises) and I don't fancy going to bed at 19.30! Has anyone had a similar change in sleeping pattern and how have you accommodated it?

Look up the 4 month sleep regression! Totally normal - and it will pass. Hellish time, mine lasted about 2 weeks x

I would do your bath at around 7pm, into night clothes and feed. Then settle baby to sleep in the place he normally naps during the daytime downstairs.

Then continue with your evening, with either you or DH staying up until baby wakes for the 11pm feed. At that wake up, then take baby upstairs and do the feed there.

Once baby stops waking for this 11pm feed and you find that you (or DH) are having to wake baby up in order to go to bed, that would be when I would start doing bedtime upstairs at 7-8pm ish. With my children that was around 5 months old. I appreciate this is before the 6 months recommendations, so it would be up to you if you wanted to wait that extra month or not.
