dd sleeps for 3 hours a day sometimes and doesnt go to bed til 9.30

she wakes up during the night too (can be up to four times), shes 18monhts, we cant put her in her own room yet because we need to knock walls down to make one so HV v frustrated with me, so i dont ask any more! I spend a lot of the night holding her hand to get her to go back to sleep, had a really shit week cos she has been poorly with teeth, dp and i are knackered, in fact we have been knackered since dd born (only used to sleep max of 2 hours for 2 months)and its putting a strain on our relationship. I needed her to have the daytime sleep when she was younger as i was working from home so encouraged it. Now i want to shorten it but when ever i wake her early she is irritable and if she doesnt have it - god help us, and anyone else who gets in her way. Any thoughts? please dont tell me to give her own room, its possible but awkward, but tbh im not ready to not have her next to me.

i have to say, i like the break but earlier nights might give me a chance to talk to dp again, that would be novel instead of coming down to find him asleep on the sofa (it takes me an hour to get dd to sleep!) to be fair he does the wash up and tidy while im laying on bed though so not complaining

Could you try to put a screen accross the area of the room she sleeps in. You would still be near her but she would not be able to see you during the night if she wakes briefly.

do you think it is cos she can see us? hv says she should have own room but i would think i would have to then drag my lazy arse out of bed ten times

my ds used to come into me every night

i started pushing my bedroom door just enough that he couldn't see my bed from his doorway

he stopped coming in, still wakes but goes back to sleep.

so yes, could easily be because she can see you that she doesn't just turn over and go back to sleep!

I have friends that have used a screen and it worked for them. Although DS is younger (10 months) we found that putting in his room at 9 months did the trick. He sleeps through because he can't see us.

Ds1 alwayd was grumpy when i woke him from his naps and in the morning still is. He's 3.5.
Same applies to ds2 (3 1/2 months). But they both sleep, mostly, when I expect them to. Def start pinching the daytime kip and adding it to the night. Short term pain for long-term gain asnd all that.
