9 month old - dropping second nap?

Hi all,

(I hate to say it..) my daughter has always been very good with her sleep; she is 8.5 months and sleeps 7.30PM-6AM with two naps (9AM-11AM and 2-3PM). The past 1-2 weeks she has started not wanting her afternoon nap, although naturally by 7PM she is getting extremely tired if she doesnt have the afternoon nap. Do you think she is trying to drop it?

She is normally really easy with sleep, and has always been a little 'ahead' a little, her 4 and 8 month regression were 1 month early. She has been teething for ages and has 6 teeth, so I dont think its that.

I just wanted to get some opinion as it seems way too early to drop a nap?! x

I wouldn't drop it, but would shorten the morning nap in order to increase awake time between naps.

I would wake baby at 10am and take a few days to figure out where the afternoon nap is best placed. After less morning sleep, baby may want to move this nap to 1pm and sleep for longer, say 1-3pm. Or maybe baby is ready for stretching that awake time to 4h and will keep a 2pm nap. Also judge bedtime according to how the afternoon nap settled. You may end up with 9-10 and 2-4 naps, which might mean bedtime needs moving a bit later.

My children were down to one long nap over lunch by 9 months. That was just best for them

Hiya

Thanks for the comments! I am going to try shorten the morning nap. I would happily let her drop the morning nap, but not the afternoon nap as its too long until bed time. I am going to try 9-10AM this afternoon and see hwat happens later.

Thansk x
