Help! 18mo sleep gone awry on holiday...

My 18mo DD has started screaming for an hour at bedtime on holiday. We're staying with my parents, familiar place she knows and has settled before no problems. She's also waking in the night for up to 1-2 hits screaming and is completely unsettleable. I stay with her, hold her till she's almost asleep, pop her in her cot and bam! She's up, screaming the minute I try and tiptoe out. I'm waiting a few minutes and going back in, but I can't/don't want to leave her to scream until she passes out.

We've got another week here and I'm shattered and tearful and it's ruining my holiday tbh. I'm wondering if it's:

  • 18 month sleep regression
  • severe separation anxiety
  • teeth / illness

At home she goes down with no fuss and sleeps 7-7.

Any ideas?

Why don't you bring her cot next to your bed, for the duration of this holiday?

Good point - I co-slept with her in the end from 4am onwards last night, but I don't sleep at all well with a baby in the bed (never have). I guess I could just have a sort of mental cut off point each night after which I give up settling her & just co-sleep? Disturbed sleep with a baby in the bed is probably preferable to sitting in a chair rocking her all night 😴
