Used the insert from sleepyhead and....he slept!!

DS was a great little sleeper when younger (he's now 9mths) and would sleep for 4-5 hours at a time in his sleepyhead. He outgrew this a few months ago and we didn't bother getting the next size up (£180!)

Well let's just say his sleep went to shit! He was teething at the time, then got a cold, then learnt to crawl, etc, etc. I put his bad sleep down to the 8mth sleep regression and resorted to cosleeping just to survive.

The other day DH and I were packing away some of DS's old clothes and came across his sleepyhead. DH started talking about the days of one wake up at night and whether we should sell it. I then started thinking about whether buying the next size sleepyhead would work. At the moment £180 is nothing if it will help DS sleep.

I came on here and searched for sleepyhead grand, to see what others thought of it. I came across a post from someone saying they took out the pillow part and placed it under their DC's sheet, creating a makeshift sleepyhead with more space. Couldn't hurt, I thought.

OMG.....DS went down at 7pm (drowsy with a firm hand on his chest, thanks to FATE's advice) and then went downstairs. I stared at the video monitor waiting for him to wake. An hour went past.....nothing. He rolled over in his sleep....nothing. I finally went up to bed at 9.30pm and DS slept until 2am!! He had a quick bottle and then back down until 6.30am Shock

I feel like a new woman!! So thank you whoever you are Grin

I just posted recently about whether I should get the sleepy head for my 2 week old and have finally decided to order it. I can feel your elation in this post and just wanted to say congrats! I'll remember this tip when the time comes. Could you maybe post a pic as well so we can see what you did?? X

I would really recommend the sleepyhead. I know people say you can swaddle to get the same effect but I was always terrible at swaddling and the sleepyhead meant I could just put DS back to bed in the middle of the night without fuffing about.

This isn't a photo of my DS's cot but gives you an idea. I just put the pillow part of the sleepyhead under his cot sheet and made sure the sheet was pulled tight enough over it that it wouldn't slide off Smile

I also recommend the sleepyhead, bought for my daughter when she was around 6 weeks old, stopped her rotating round the cot and she slept better.
I also used a gro snug for swaddling as no way can i use a blanket, that was fantastic, but to wean her off it we had to buy a cheap velcro fastening swaddle bag so she could gradually fight her way out of it.
