8 month old routine help!

Hello,

Was wondering if you could help with our routine. Basically my 8 month old has always been a cat napper, I've tried everything but he hasn't progressed to longer sleep! He manages 11hours in his cot consistently at night though.

6am - wake
6.30 - 130ml milk
8am-8.30 - nap 30 mins
8.30 - breakfast
10.30 - 130ml milk
11-11.30 nap 30 mins
12.30 lunch
1.30 - 2 nap 30 mins
2.30 - 130ml milk
4-4.30 nap 30 mins
5.30 - dinner
6- bath
6.30 130ml milk
Asleep by 7
10.30 dream feed 130ml

He's never taken large volumes of milk so we do little and often.

I'm aware babies this age should be dropping from 3-2 naps but we are still on 4! Could anyone share their routine and offer improvements to ours?

Considering his naps are only 30 mins, I don't think you need to drop any yet.. and that fact he sleeps well at night makes me think if it ain't broke...

My 9 month old is still similar, without the unbroken sleep at night! She was premature, so adjusted she is similar. The last couple of weeks every three days or so she's started to have a two hour nap and on those days she only has two naps. I'm hoping that gradually this will happen every day! I'm not sure there's much that can be done, other than waiting for them to grow out of it.

Our routine is similar but with the difference that DD2 is awake every 30-120 minutes through the night!

It seems like a pretty solid routine to me - many babies are cat nappers until they are developmentally ready to link their sleep cycles which can happen any time after 6 months. With DD1 this happened suddenly at 8mo whereas there is no sign of this happening yet with DD2. Dropping from 3 to 2 naps presupposes baby has two solid naps of 1.5 to 2 hours, it doesn't work with cat nappers.

Maybe you need to stretch his awake times.
My 8 month old's routine is like this pretty much every day, for the last 2 weeks when he went from 3 to 2 naps.
1st nap 2.5-3 hours after waking so 9.30-11am
2nd nap 3 hours after waking from 1st nap so 2pm-330pm
Bedtime around 3.5 hours later so 7pm.
Maybe he is taking short naps because he is not tired enough?

Is the 11 hours at night unbroken? If so, she can link sleep cycles well So I wonder why she isn't in the daytime.

Could it be hunger? In the morning for example, I'd have given breakfast first and milk about an hour later, all before morning nap. Likewise the awake time in which you have lunch and dinner, I would give the meal upon waking (with a drink) and then milk about an hour later, then nap.

Where do daytime naps take place?

When my DS turned 9 months we had this routine:

6am - wake up
7am - breakfast
9.15 - nap for 90 minutes in cot
11.30 - lunch
14.15 - nap for 90 minutes in cot
16.30 - evening meal
18.15 - bath and bedtime routine
19.00 - in cot for bed.

Meant to add that he has breast feeds interspersed throughout the day and also that I agree with fate that you should be giving breakfast and lunch before the naps take place.
