And now it's gone to hell in a hand basket! We've been working towards getting our 8 month old into a bit of a routine, regular wake ups, meal times, naps and bed time etc. I was doing the gradual retreat method at night and it was working great up until she started having 'proper' naps during the day and from there it's gone completely tits up. Confused

Her average daily routine is as follows:

7am wake up

7:30 bottle

8:30 breakfast

10am nap for 1.5 hours

11:45 bottle

12:30 lunch

2:30 nap for 1.5 hours

4:15 bottle

5:00 dinner

5:30 bath

6:30 bottle

7:00 bed

She was going to bed at 7 and out for the count by 7:15, since she's been having 3 hours worth of naps a day (previously she was a cat napper 45 minutes at a time max and clearly overtired) she's going to bed at 7 and not falling asleep for an hour to an hour and a half.

Do I reduce the naps a bit? Or educe her awake time, is 3 hours too much? Move the last bottle till 7pm? I know that the last two are close together but they've been like that since she was tiny, the last couple she seems to like in quite quick succession and she does finish it. Or go with the 8 o clock ish she seems to naturally be falling asleep and work around that? She naps in her pram during the day, my husband works nights (shes still in with us as I am in the process of doing her room) so it's not really practical to put her in her crib during the day as he needs his sleep before work, before I was holding her as she slept.

Or am I completely overthinking it and this is a leap or a sleep regression or something and I just need to ride it out? I just need to ride it out don't I? Can you tell I've not done this before?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I should add that she does sleep through once she actually falls asleep, no night feeds or anything at this point.

It is time for cot or crib naps once they extend. If try for at least one daytime nap (the first) in the cot every day.

I would say your awake times need changing a little. A good approximation for this stage is 234 (hours of awake time)

7am wake
9am nap
1pm nap
7pm bedtime

If you can't move naps earlier, then I would just change bedtime to 8pm.

The 234 thing makes much more sense than trying to stick to 3 hours. She's just gone down now, in the pram Confused, will try the afternoon one in the crib, see how we get on. Thank you!

Google 8 month sleep regression. It's a phase and hopefully she'l come out of it within the month.

Thank you! I will read about that!
