Hi, first time mum so probably neurotic worrying!! LO is 5 nearly 6 weeks old. How much daytime sleep should he have? Should we be in a routine?? Some days he's awake a few hours are time which is way to much as he gets grumpy other days he sleeps all day only waking for food. Totally conflicting advice on Google (I know shouldn't Google!!!) but don't know what we're aiming for!!!! Any advice appreciated!

I these first 6 weeks baby should mainly just be sleeping - 24 hours a day. Baby will wake when a need isn't met (usually hunger) and be awake for long enough to be fed and maybe a nappy check, wind, then straight back to sleep.

Over the coming 6 weeks up to 12 weeks old you should notice baby 'waking up' more. But awake time between naps will still only be up to an hour between one nap and the next. Less awake time at night, obviously.
