Just had DS3! He's gorgeous & snugly & only 6 days old! My other DC's are 7 & almost 5!

I'm sure this is all normal.. but just reassure me in my sleep deprived hormone filled state!

He's EBF & is feeding well.. up to half an hour most feeds.. but on & off the boob from 10pm onwards.. generally not settling in next to me crib until wee hours & even then for an hour or so.. during day he sleeps in Moses basket or pram carry cot (without rocking). He seems to tank himself up on boob all night..

From memory.. they generally don't like to sleep unless in people's arms at first.. the first 6 weeks is about surviving! Sleeping wherever possible.

Recovering from c sect (never had one before so finding it hard).

All sound normal? Anything I can do to get more sleep?! X

I swaddled as away to recreate the tight, secure feeling of being held - it makes putting baby down easier.

If not swaddling then quite normal that baby does not like the exposed feeling of not being held. Up until last week your baby was in a space where he was held very tightly and couldn't move very much.

I understand the sleepyhead mattress buys into the same factor or enclosing baby. It's all about recreating womb-like conditions.

He doesn't seem too keen on swaddling.. it's bizarre as in the day he goes down really easy.. at night he just doesn't settle.

I'll give swaddling another go tho.

Thank you 💗. Think I had my baby blues day today as had a few tears this afternoon x

Seems the same scenario with me. DC is now 4 but I remember the bf all night thing as well.

Have you tried white noise?

100% normal. Absolutely do whatever you need to do at the moment, make the most of those newborn cuddles.

My DD (now 6 months) only really slept on us for the first few weeks, in shifts we somehow did it. I ended up co-sleeping with her in sleepyhead & in a zip-up swaddle, BFing her laying down in the night which felt like a lot less effort than sitting up with pillows.

Such a special time...look after yourself, you need to heal & rest where possible too xx

Hi OP congratulations! I too have just had DC3 11 days ago and have also had sudden pangs of wtf am I doing!

The first few nights the baby did the usual wanting to be help and the only way I got any sleep was to let him lie next to me in bed. Not ideal as i don't think any of us got any decent sleep. Then my SIL visited and brought me her sleepyhead to try out and I hate to say it but it's absolutely magical! He went from hating being in his snuzpod flat on his back to sleeping soundly in it once I put the sleepyhead in there. He now wakes for one or two feeds a night but after each feed I swaddle him and put him back in his bed and jobs a good'un. They are pricey but I now see why they are such a big hit. Hang in there, the nights will get easier and it will all come flooding back to you in no time. Good luck 😉
