Hi
I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding sleep. My little one was 5 weeks premature and is 13 weeks old now. At night he will sleep for about 3-4 hours and then wakes up for a feed. In the day he seems to want to nap a lot. I take him to baby classes and play with him to keep him active and awake but he will fall asleep. He will then wake up around 4-4.30 and is wide awake. I've tried putting him into a routine of an evening with bath milk and a story. Does anyone have any other tips or is this normal given his prematurity. Thanks

From 2 to 4 months it is reasonable to expect baby to be awake for around an hour (in the range of 40-80 minutes) between one nap and the next.

Newborn (ie for the first 3 months or so) do sleep a lot - day and night.

Trying yo keep baby awake will create many problems for you. Do the opposite - encourage lots and lots and lots of sleep.

I think it's normal for a 13 week old generally (and 3-4hr stretches at night probably towards the good sleeper end). I did find that my 6 week early baby slept much more than his older siblings did at the same age during the day. Even at about 4-5 months and I was worried he didn't have enough energy. He's 7 months old now and hardly naps at all so it's obviously changed at some point!

Anyway, long story short it sounds very normal!
