Hi, am just looking for some advice my son is 14 months and has 2 naps a day but recently his schedule is not the same anymore. Sometimes he will have 2 short naps and sometimes 1 long and 1 short.
Also, it has become hard for him to settle at bedtime he doesnt seem tired and it can take him for an hour to sleep. He sleeps through out the night most time for about 10 hours. Am not sure whether he is ready for 1 long nap rather than 2. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank u☺️

I would start routining the times, if you haven't already. Messing around at bedtime is likely to be to do with the timings of the naps. Not the total amount of sleep because rgsy should stay fairly static.

So start from the fact that you want the afternoon nap to finish no later than 4pm. Then work backwards from that.

So if you usually get a 2h nap, it means afternoon nap will always start at 2pm and if baby isn't already awake by 4pm, you wake him. That should then give you a good 4h plus awake time stretch until an 8pm bedtime. (If your bedtime is different, adjust accordingly)

Then work out where a morning nap would be best placed and start routining that too. I would suggest 9.30am and awake no later than 11am

If you are still getting messing around at bedtime make the morning nap shorter and the afternoon nap earlier.

He could be getting ready to transition to 1 nap. It's a gradual process to make the change though, not like flicking a switch.

Try stretching to 5h then.

Mine always did a 8pm-7am night and 225h awake times (9-11am and 1-3pm).

It's just finding something that works for your child. A 45-60m morning nap might be better for yours, then a longer afternoon nap. But routining the times of the naps is your next step, in whatever routine works best.
