Thinking of getting one for ds room, are they any good? He's not going to sleep til 9pm most nights and Im hoping a darker room will help.

We are currently using ours for second baby so it's into its third year of use. It's good, but it's ugly in my opinion. I'd have liked a nice blackout lined blind fitted but that was too pricey so this has worked fine.

We used one when ds was tiny and found it great. However it does really heat the room up if the sun is shining on it. Ds is now 2 and we're just trying to get him to sleep without absolute darkness...so far, so good. It has pros and cons.

Thanks. The sun isn't on his room in the afternoon/evening so hoping it won't make it too hot. He is nearly 2. I don't want to shell out for proper blackout blinds if it's not going to help so thought this would be a goid start.

They're the most annoying blinds ever. Fall down all the twatting time. They work though.

I've got one and I hate it. The sucker things don't stick to the window and the Velcro size adjustment is a nightmare. Apparently the older ones had decent suckers. I have adapted it with some hooks and rings so it works better for us but it's a pita.

Good place to start (unless like our current rental places you have massive windows and have to but two blinds to cover them up...), but not a long-term solution. Very ugly, a hassle to put up and down each day (unless you give up and just have the room always dark)...but they do work pretty well. And are useful for summer travelling to relatives, b&bs etc.

I find them a pita too. We have sash windows and they don't do a good job, maybe better on other kinds of window. I've ended up duct taping the top and one side to reduce the light getting in. I get quite irrationally angry with them.

They are great for holidays and short term use but a pain in the ass to use every night at home as you need to remove, at least partially, to open the window. Our suckers work well but it's at least 5 years old. I find if you lick them (sorry but it's true!) they stick better

We used to use them daily. Great cheap solution that you can take away with you on hols.

It does the job but like others have said, the suckers don't always stick very well and also it really heats the room up.

It also looks awful from the outside. I was getting in the car one morning and looked up at the bedroom window, it looked like we'd put a bin bag up at the window I'm looking to invest in a blackout roller blind from blinds2go but our window is massive so it probably won't be cheap

I love ours we have black our curtains but I use this underneath the keep the room consistently dark (black out curtains alone the light was getting through and disturbing him at dawn). It's also been great to take with us when we have stayed over night at friends and family and also blocks some of the heat of our sons room if I keep it up all day our when we've had really hot days!

I get what you are saying, but blackout blinds really are worth it. Even as an adult, since we had them fitted in our bedroom (way back when first becoming parents) I would never go back to non-blackouts.

I don't think they are all that expensive either. And if you are starting blackouts from scratch, I think curtains which are set higher and wider than the window are better than blinds. Much less light bleeding around the edges.

If you happen to have massive windows (we have windows which are all over 3m wide, bigger than standard blind sizes so we have to buy from specialists), door curtains are the answer. £15-20 per single curtain from Amazon. Buy two to make a pair - they are up to about 2m wide per curtain (can be gathered to reduce width), floor to ceiling height and blackout. Total coverage of the window wall - great product.

Yeah we tried that gro blind but it kept falling off so we made one ourselves using blackout fabric and sticky Velcro tape. The darkness really did help..

How big is the window, we got a blackout blind from Dunelm.

We've used one since DS was born as we're too cheap to get real blackout blinds installed... but also always thought installed blinds would let a crack of light through the edges? Don't get that so much with the Gro blind because there is excess fabric past the suckers so blocks any gap out. Anyway! It's really good and massive, DS has a big wide window. It does fall down sometimes which is irritating, but it's generally great!

We have 2, one for each child and use them every night. They are a pain to put up and down every day but the kids sleep well and they sleep in!
They are great for holidays too. The older one is better but not much you can do about that unless you can find one on eBay. Our older one must be at least 8 years old and still great condition.

We've got one as we haven't got around to ordering a proper blackout blind yet.

It's fine - the suckers are decent but you need to wet them first to make them stick well (I wipe them with a wet wipe!).

It does make the room hot though and it's plasticky nature stops any breeze coming through
