standing up

Please help. my ds has never gone from standing to lying down ever. He's nearly 13 months and is waking up about three times a night now (used to sleep through). We have tried to leave him and he's actually shouted stood up for 1.5 hours before we've gone in and stoked his head to sleep. Even playing in the day I can't get him to go from any sort of sitting/standing to a lying down position. What can we do - do we just have to wait it out till he's older and he learns he has to be horizontal to sleep!?

Ds would always stand and wail until we did pick up put down (baby whisperer). We now lay him down in his cot and he stays laying down, wriggles around a bit and drops off. We do stay in the room while he does this though but it's only 10-15 mins max. On the rare occasion he stands up I just keep laying him down until he gets the message. Hope that helps

Thanks. We do try the pick up put down but he immediatly rolls over and stands up when put down. All the babies I know who don't have this problem seem to want to sleep on their front. It's almost like he rolls over in his sleep and then he finds himself in a position where the only option is to get up. Can I ask how many times do you do the pick up put down and do you wait till he's mellow before putting him down again and do you leave the room in between tries? One of the only ways to get him to sleep is to sit by the cot while he drops off and then he doesn't get up - much like yours I guess. Perhaps it's just separation anxiety.

I had one horrible 24 hours of pupd where I just kept doing it over and over for each nap and his bedtime. Took 45 mins each time and then 1 1/2 hours at 4am. She says to only wait until the second the crying stops before putting down again, any longer and you're providing a sleep prop. She also says to not leave his side at all until you've got it cracked. So we stay until he is snoring and then leave. It was a very hard day but he's been soooooooooo much better since. He's a tummy sleeper btw

Ok fantastic. that's what I'll do tonight. I did that vaguely last night but I got him very sleepy before I put him down and then stayed by cot till he was sound. It did work though but he still woke up twice in the night. Was a vast improvement in how long it took to get him back to sleep though. Thanks so much
