7 month old refusing afternoon nap - is this a nap transition and if so what to do?

My 7 month old has never been a great napper - 45 minutes a pop and sometimes only 30 minutes. She will randomly do a 1.5h or 2h nap but I never know what it is that makes that kind of magic happen!

Recently she has been refusing her afternoon nap. She will wake from a nap at midday or 1pm and refuse the next one. She starts to show tired signs at about 2.5 - 3h awake time but can stay awake up to 5 hours! I'm SURE that is way too long to be awake for a 7 month old even if i stretch her for an early bedtime. She goes down fairly easily for her first and second naps which are between 1.5 and 3h awake time.

Sounds like its a nap transition from 3 to 2 so any tips on how to deal with it would be helpful. Should I be stretching her awake time in the morning so she only does one? For e.g. this morning she napped 8.45 - 9.30 and 12-12.45pm.

Is it the 3rd nap that is being dropped? I'm not clear from your post how many naps baby has a day.

7 months old is a reasonable age to drop to two naps a day - 9am and 1pm, for example.

You could do with finding a way to help baby extend the naps past 1 sleep cycle though. Have you tried and resettling baby just before due to wake up, to move him into a second sleep cycle.

3rd one is the one I suspect she's dropping - which is fine except she has the first 2 before 1pm and that is quite a long stretch to bedtime!

I'll try resettling her after short naps and see how I go
