Sleeping bag

DS is now in his cot and I put him in a sleeping bag. I can see him really trying to get himself to sleep and holds his hand to his face to do this but as soon as his hand drops to the side he's awake. He sometimes does manage to drop the arm without waking again.

Is there anything I can do to help? Or is it a process of time?? I don't really want to put him in a sleeping bag with his hands in as this will take away him soothing himself with his hand (and he's not too far from rolling over).

You don't mention age, I assume under 3 months old (given the mention of swaddle).

You are massively over thinking and over-expecting.

The ability to coordinate movements and limbs enough to deliberately place hands/objects where they like comes at around 9-12 months. Until then, and certainly in under 3 months, movements are largely random and uncontrolled.

Your baby will need your help to get to sleep.

He's just over 4 months. I know he needs my help and I don't expect him to get himself to sleep by any stretch of the imagination. He's so nearly there some times through the night but his arm drop wakes him up so I was wondering if there are any ways I could help him without doing it for him. I'm quite happy supporting him to sleep just picking people's brains.
