How to get 1 year old to sleep

I've always breastfed my 1 year old DD to sleep but recently she's stopped falling asleep at the breast and takes at least 45 minutes of rocking to get her to go to sleep. She normally has just one 2 hour sleep in the day and I don't let her sleep after 2pm as then she really struggles to go to sleep in the evening. I don't like to leave her to cry but I feel like I should be teaching her how to fall asleep, but how do you do it? Any advice welcome!

A co sleeper cot would be a good start. Cuddled her to sleep with a comforter lying down, but in the cot. Then gradually over time reduce the degrees of separation so she gradually learns to go to sleep independantly.

Thank you for posting FATE, I've got a co sleeper cot and will give cuddling her to sleep a try, and introduce a comforter.
