11 month old refusing to go to sleep

Our baby boy has always been great at going to bed and falling to sleep on his own. The last month has been awful. We do the same routine of bath, bottle , bed but now he pulls himself up in his cot, giggles, throws himself around, babbles that's if we're in the room.
If we're not in the room, then he cries and and cries and cries. Eventually he falls asleep but I don't like that he cries himself to sleep.
He is on our room as he was recently poorly and was being sick in his sleep.
Really don't know what to do as we are massively regressing. Any tips and advice?
Thank you
