19 month wont sleep in bed

Hi there my 19 month old son wont sleep in his bed at night time during the day when he has a nap he will sleep in his bed but when it comes to bed time at 7 pm as soon as we leave the room he jumps out of his bed and hes running around playing we keep going in and putting him down but he wont have it so in the end we have to put him back in the cot and then he will drop off to sleep almost instantly can anyone help?

Is there a reason he can't sleep in his cot?

19 months is very early to be in a bed. My children were over 3 years old when they moved from cot to bed.
