lots of my friends seem to be complaining they can't get their kids out of bed in the morning _ kids the same age as ds

I've never been able to keep mine in his bloody bed!

We've started tp let him stay up till 8.45pm at weekends as most of his pals seem to stay up till at least 9 - BUT he's still up the next day at 7.30 and this morning he's as crabbit as sin

Why doesn't he understand if he goes to bed at a more grown up time he must therefore get up later> it's not rocket science FGS!!

He's 9 in May and still so unreasonable about a lot of things!

Is there anyone with boys around this age or older thats got any advice?

Sounds great to me, bet he has no trouble getting up for school etc. He is lucky, my nearly 9 year old always hates getting up, his natural inner clock is set for 9am. He's going to have trouble getting up right through school and for work. Dd a year younger always wakes earlier than ds.
I got my 2 to accept that weekend is the time when mum and dad get to sleep longer so they have to get up quietly if they wake early and play or watch TV and not fight etc. Works quite well now but we needed alot of practise.

tell me how to make my 2 do this!!

Blimey 7:30 is a lie in for us and DS1.

He's almost 8 and is nearly always up before 6:30am!!

I was alwasy a early riser(still am really) as I child so I think it's all my fault.

My ds used to say that the reason he got up early at weekends was because he was excited at the prospect of no school.

Perhaps you could enroll him in some sort of Saturday school?

My 9 yo never sleeps past about 6.30 am, frequently it's much earlier - not really a problem at that age though is it tbh as they can easily occupy themselves for a while whilst you stay in bed.

Also as Lady T says, it is inherited. Apparently it is genetic whether you are a lark or an owl.

I read it in "New Scientist". So it MUST be true!

Yes it is my dh is a scientist and he did a course during his PhD time on it!

thunk · 04/03/2007 19:40

yes, I'm a lark and seem to have passed it onto my 2 kids!!

I guess we'll just have to live with it.........

ds2 who's almost 6 is awake at 6 most mornings and I'm always tired and crabby!!
