Could you fix two toddler beds together, like a divan base and then two mattresses?

Of course, but if you (or a joiner) were to buy 2 wooden toddler beds, drill through the frames at a few points and then bolt them together then it would be perfectly safe. You'd need to find a design where there was no lip round the bed so the mattresses could be flush. Then a soft mattress protector or similar under a sheet to make it comfy.

I only suggest that as I don't think a toddler double bed exists and it seems crazy to pay for a peice of custom made furniture that will only last a year or two - alteration will be much cheaper than bespoke.

Why not just get a full size single (3 foot wide) or if you have the width, a small double (4 foot wide). It saves you buying another when she grows taller and will suit her needs for the long term.

Just buy double fouton or similar low bed.

Would a shorty bed do the job? You can get them that are 3ft by 170cm, can post a link if that would work. Or in your shoes I would do two toddler mattresses on the floor.
