do you have to change matteress for 2nd baby ? is it safe for ds2 to use dd1's cot mattress ?

I having babe no3 soon - have so far bought new mattress each time and will again - not sure if you REALLY need to but i just have - eases MY conscience!!! I know this used to be thought of a possible reason for cot death if the mattress was old so just helps me to sleep easy.
