8 1/2 month old dd won't stop crying

Dd has been teething over this past few days, and has been very upset with some bad nights. But this evening, she has been crying/screaming almost constantly for the past hour.

She has had all the medicine and teething powder she can have, and has eaten, had milk and a clean nappy. I try to comfort her but she won't let me, so I've been leaving the room, and popping in every couple of minutes to put her dummy back in and let her know I'm there and comfort her a little. Whenever I leave she just gets more upset than she was before, but if I stay she is still upset.

Usually we lay her in her cot, and she just makes her tired noises and goes to sleep. If she cries, we pop back in a few times and she will go to sleep. But I think she's just in pain and so over-tired.

I have tried co-sleeping this last few days, but she won't sleep then either. Does anyone please have any advice? It's breaking my heart seeing her so upset and not being able to help. Even when I give her a cuddle she still cries and says "mama". I don't know how to help her.

I should add that her sleep usually isn't great, but not like this. She also napped well during the day.

Are you sure it's only teething and not an earache? Only saying that as I have heard that earache = constant screaming. Hope she is okay poor thing.

Have you got a cold teething ring to help ease/numb the pain? Can you give her a different medicine? Check labels & google.

And have you given ibuprofen instead of calpol for the pain? Sure you already have. It's such a bugger teething.

Sounds like an earache for sure. Any fever?

My first thought was ear infection.

DS2 screamed all night once and was teething. When he carried on the next day we got a Dr and he had a double ear infection with perforated eardrum. As well as teething!

He's had several since then and a sure sign for him is crying and screaming with no relief from pain killers.

Today she's had calpol, ibuprofen, teething gel and teething powder (obviously not all at once!). I hadn't considered an earache, maybe it could be that. She also keeps tensing her tummy, I have noticed when I cuddle her.

Also just totally broken my rule and brought her back downstairs with me, and she's seemed to chill out. Maybe she just doesn't want to sleep? I don't know.

I agree with the cold teething ring. Teething is the worst pain they've ever been in. I can remember my wisdom teeth were agony! Keep up the calpol, nurofen and teething powders. They can be rubbed on the gums too.

Also she's really random and doesn't teeth too much on her fridge or wooden teethers, she prefers to teeth on soft things which I'm not sure really helps.

She probably does want to sleep but her gums hurt too much.

She's had a slight temp, but okay now. Sorry for lots of separate replies.

Gp in the morning. None of my 3 have made this sort of fuss with teething, but certainly have with earache.

I may see how she goes tonight, and book a Dr's appt tomorrow in case it's sn ear infection.

Try her with a cold damp flannel/muslin square if she likes soft things. One of mine preferred soft over hard teethers.
