Has anyone breastfed their child to sleep and they've self settled eventually without sleep training?

DS is 8mths and I've always bf to sleep. He usually wakes up once in night for a feed. He usually stirs quite a lot, sometimes cries out but manages to get himself back to sleep. When I eventually stop breastfeeding (no plans just yet) will it be possible for him to self settle? I never really thought about the way he went to sleep but now I'm reading all this stuff about how babies shouldn't be fed to sleep past 6months and I'm starting to panic that we'll still have to bf to sleep when he's 10!! Does anyone have any examples of their dc sorting themselves out naturally without needing sleep training?

Yes with all three of mine. They are 9,6 and 4 now and all go to bed screeching like banshees that they want to stay up nicely.

*feeding to sleep is the easiest thing to do in the first year that should say. First couple of years I think.

If I had to go out or went to a wedding, ds wasn't 'put to bed' properly but fell asleep with who ever was looking after him and put in push chair till I was back.

My mum was ace at getting him to sleep though from around 10 mo. She just had enough patience to read 20 books to him till he dozed off!

She dropped all night feeds just before Xmas (unless ill) she's been nursing and then laying down awake for a good 6 months and for the past 3/4 days has fed downstairs and then gone up to bed half an hour or so later. I still lay with her for the 10 mins or so until she's asleep (we cosleep) but that's it and she hasn't even asked for milk

She was 2 in Jan and this has all been initiated by her

Yes, with both of mine. Of you want some guidance get The No Cry Sleep Solution, by Elizabeth Pantly.
I didn't go in much for patenting books, but this was good.
