Escaping the swaddle!!!

I've posted a couple of times about my 4 week old DD and her sleeping! She is currently sleeping really well during the day! She has a dummy which doesn't stay in when she's gone off so I just leave it, we use white noise (Don the Donkey) and swaddling, our only problem is the slight lest movement she makes, her left arm has escaped the swaddle and wakes her up, during the day this isn't a problem she can either drop off herself or just needs her arm put back in but at night when this happens she will be crying for hours and hours! Now the last time I spoke to the HV she said she's got colic or reflux and to try her on dentinox and comfort milk so I'm not sure if the fact that her sleep at night is so bad because it's affected by this! Has anyone got any advice? Tired mummy needs help

There are swaddles you can but, that you zip baby into. I think grosnug, or something like that. It's made by the grobag company.

Or just use a longer sheet for swaddling. I used a cot sheet with baby placed along the long edge. Oodles of extra material then them to wrap all the way around and under baby.

I am using Aden Anais blanket, there seems to be loads of spare fabric, should her arms be straight by her sides? If so I can't straighten them without it seeming I'll hurt her(FTM so scared of being too rough)

I had a couple of these and they were amazing! They zip up so no escaping and you can undo just the bottom for a nappy change.

How did you wrap your baby? Have watched videos etc but she still manages to do her best Houdini impression!

They do escape. I think if you use any swaddle that you wrap (like I did) then as baby moves it will come loose. Then when baby wakes, I'd reswaddle.

If you want something inescapable I'd suggest one you sip baby into.

In terms of how I did it:

• I'd use a cot sheet cut in half along the lobg edge to make two long, thin rectangles (one swaddle for use, one for wash).
• place it flat, it would reach all the way across our super king sized bed when laid flat. Put baby in centre, neck just above material.
• take one side, cross arm over chest, wrap material over shoulder, across chest, under baby and wrap around other side of baby.
• take second arm, place arm across chest and do the same, wrapping extra material all the way around baby.

I'd definitely recommend the Love to Dream swaddle.

Another vote for the Love to Dream Swaddle, we swaddled our little boy in a muslin for the first few weeks then he figured out how to escape it. I got one of these and BINGO! He slept much better immediately, wish I'd got one sooner, I actually bought my SIL one when she had her second baby recently I thought they were so good. It then made the transition into a sleeping bag much easier, they do one with unzippable sleeves, which you are supposed to take off one at a time for a few nights to get them used to having their arms out. However, my little boy was fine and this was a waste of money cause as soon as he had one arm free, he was pulling at the other one to get it off so we went straight into a sleeping bag at this point. He's ten months old now and loves his sleeping bags. We've got other sleep issues which is why I was browsing the sleep thread tonight but his clothing isn't one of them! Good Luck x
