Ds is always up early, 5usually. Sometimes a bit later.twice ever past 7. Never needed the suggested amount of sleep. He's got a cold which I know affects things awake at but awake at 4.24 am today. I bf him, put his mobile/light thing on. Gave milk. Cuddled. Was almost asleep four times then fought it off. Gave up at 6. I'm now out with the pram hoping for a nap. I'm fucking knackered. 30 weeks pregnant. I can't sleep when he sleeps as he won't nap in the cot, I've been trying and mostly failing in that respect.

I don't know what I'm.hopng to achieve by this post, I just feel hopeless, and on a countdown to a whole world of crap when the next one arrives.

Can you just bring him into your bed? At least you can half doze whilst cuddling him back to sleep then

It depends on whether he has actually just had enough sleep or if it's a bad habit. If the latter I found that an early nap was the culprit.

He's 16 months and he's in my bed after he wakes up, usually wakes in the night and Co sleep after that, then up at 5. Goes to sleep fine in cot although not last night, which h is the first time in months. We cuddled to sleep in bed. As he's poorly.

His naps are crap. Yesterday he had 30 minutes at 9 and almost an hour at 2. He normally won't have more than one but again being under the weather he needed more.

It is worse due to his cold, but not by much tbh.

What about cosleeping through daytime naps and in the early mornings?

ooh do you mean the early nap he's having now? He doesn't usually have one but I can't avoid it today

I'm guessing with so little daytime sleep he's exhausted by the evening. What time is he going to bed?

I can't Fate, he won't go to sleep like it. I do in the mornings but he won't go back to sleep, or nap like it. Sadly.

What time does he go to bed at night. Imo rarely do children sleep more than 11hrs at night. So 6pm bed, 5am wake is expected. 7pm bed, 6am wake expected etc. Obviously some sleep more but 11hrs is very good anyway. For 7.30am waking i would be aiming for 8.30pm bed. Plus 2-3hrs nap at 16 months. 1hr in pram late morning, 1-2hrs around 2pm anywhere. Can you co sleep the afternoon nap so you both get rest?

Sorry, normally asleep by 6.30 or 7 at the latest. He will sleep up to 2 hrs sometimes, and did when I got him to nap in his cot but mostly I can't get him to nap in his cot, and he rarely sleeps that long in his pram.

He doesn't appear to be too tired before bed.

DD2 is the same age and is always up between half 4 and 5.

She goes for a nap at 9 and sleeps 1.5 hours ish, sometimes 2 if lucky and then that's it til she goes to bed at 6/6.30.

Maybe he would respond better to one nap too? I'd work on getting him to have this in the cot, I know it's hard but persevere and you will hopefully get there. Otherwise naps with the newborn around will be tricky.

I am due another any day too, I stress about DD2 and her recent frequent night waking, since she had croup a few weeks ago. The thought of both of them up at night makes me feel physically sick.

I successfully sleep trained DD2 and until the croup she was an excellent sleeper so will do it again next week to get her back on track.

I think with 6.30pm bedtime it's going to be normal he is awake by 5.30am as he's already slept loads. You need later bedtime if you want a later morning

I thought I'd cracked it a few weeks ago when he NAPPED IN HIS cot two days in a row for 2plus hours. Not managed it since.

I would try one daytime nap - at least it is only one battle! By going back to sleep at 9 he can get away with waking up at 5 iyswim. I'd aim for lunch at 11.30 then nap after and hope that he takes a longer nap because of it.

If you're going to give it a go stick at it for 5-7 days to see if it makes a difference.

Do you do a bedtime routine that you can do a mini version of for naps? We did into room, curtains closed, nappy change, book and bed.

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling really over whelmed and I've started dreading the new baby arriving. I'd like to get his bedtime a bit later, I'm happy for him to be up at 6, but I just can't make it work. Probably because of this crap napping.

Agree with Artandco. Seems a little unfair to expect a very long evening, and a late(ish) morning. If you went to bed at 8.30 / 9, that would give you 2 hours of evening and 7/8 hours of sleep.

It's only last two days he's had two naps. Itsnormally one.

We have a great bedtime routine and yes have tried that for naps. But after two weeks of failing (after the initial success) I gave up. I was spending my whole day trying to get him to sleep one way or another.

I'll just reiterate.

He has one nap. He's had two because he's poorly bur still not more than85 minutes a day.

I WANT him to go to bed later, but he's ready and happily goes 6.30-7. Should I keep.him up and end up with him cranky and overtired?

I'd be happy with 6am,or even 5.30 but not before 5.

He doesn't sleep through so that's not solid sleep.

I think I'm just going to keep walking this morning and hope he catches up a bit. Mt hips are Agony, but he will wake up if I go home.

Have you got anyone that can take him while you catch up? I've been there - sleep deprivation is rubbish

It's normally 10.30-11 ish but can be much later. It's whenever he needs it really. Should I try a set time? Tbf I have and it resulted in.much stress. It was fairly reliable when he was on two.

The transition to one was really difficult for us. We just always did it after lunch

I've booked my days off work this week, I usually work three days. So will try to get some sleep as he will still go to Mil. He sleeps well for her. Still in the pram but will go off in the house for up to two hours. Not for me though!

I think that's what I need to do, fill the mornings up as much as I can and home for the afternoon and try for the cot.
