How are you dressing your baby at night?

My son has been waking slightly more frequently in the night, and his head is sweaty, so I think I'm over dressing him. I've been paranoid about him getting cold as his cot is on my side of the bed under the window.

He sleeps in a sleepyhead, and I put him in a long sleeve vest and sleepsuit, then he has either one or two blankets depending on whether I think it's cold. But, like I say, I think that's too much.

What are your babies wearing at the moment? Particularly if you also use the sleepyhead.

Loose blankets sound a bit dangerous, I'm assuming he is wrapped in them?

My 10 month old is in a poppered vest, a footless all in one and then his sleepsac. Room is around 20 degrees.

4 month old is in a long sleeve vest top and sleep suit with a 2.5 tog grobag. Before I got the sleeping bags she was in one or two blankets. I would think in this cold weather one blanket wouldn't be enough unless it was thick. What is the temp in your room?

My 6 week old is in long sleeve vest, babygrow and swaddled in a blanket.

I assume he's very young and the blankets are cellular? What temperature is your bedroom? Perhaps try a short sleeve vest under the sleepsuit and 1 blanket. I don't have experience of the sleepyhead so don't know if that makes baby warmer.

It depends on whether the blankets are folded over, what they are made of and how warm your room is as to whether that is too much! We've gone over to sleeping bags now in his Sleepyhead and he has a single long sleeved sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog bag in a 19ish degree room.
I did think the sleeping bags were a waste of money until we were given a couple, it's so much easier to pick him up, feed and put down while he stays warm and snug. Plus now he is more wriggly, even if I tuck blankets in well he can wriggle under them if they are too high or kick them off if they are too low.

My DD was a hot baby so spent most of the year in a 1 tog sleeping bag and long sleeved vest. I don't think.she slept in a sleep suit apart from when the sleeping bags were in the wash!

Oh and he's 10 weeks, been in the sleepyhead since 4 days and sleeping bags from about 6 weeks (but a big baby!).

My 6 month old sleeps in a sleepyhead in a short sleeve vest, sleep suit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. We don't have heating on overnight and are in North Scotland

Apparently the optimum temp for a baby's room should be 18deg.

I'm currently putting my 9mo in sleepsuit and 2.5tog grobag but think I'll be sticking a vest on her soon.

I've been told this loads but whilst neither is great it's better due baby to be chilly than roasty.

DS is in short sleeved vest, sleepsuit and 3.5tog sleeping bag with sleeves from slumbersac. Our gro-egg often is blue though and showing 14-15 degs :( as our house is quite old and can get very cold. He seems comfortable though and doesn't wake.

I have a hot baby, sleepyhead didn't really make a temperature difference but learnt the hard way that not all babies need vests and loads of folded blankets. She was so wet I thought her nappy had failed! Currently happy in a 2.5 grobag and onesie in 19 degree room. Daytime naps is a large cellular blanked folded once over normal clothes (long sleeve top and leggings - no cardigans indoors!)

I think you should invest in a sleeping bag, and use that instead of blankets.

Ds is just under 5 months old, and sleeps in a 2.5 tog gro bag, short sleeved bodysuit and a sleepsuit. Our room is usually about 18 degrees as it seems all the flats around us have been putting their heating on overnight (that's fine by me, they've saved me shit loads of money). I often wake up in the middle of the night and check how warm he is. Even when I feel cold, he's usually fine.

we're moving somewhere a bit cooler this weekend, so I just bought a grosuit (sleepsuit with quilted sleeves) so he'll be wearing that at night soon.

Also, do you know how to check how warm your DS is? Check his stomach, it should feel pleasantly warm, not cold or hot and clammy.

Long sleeved vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. Room temp normally about 16-17 and when we were using short sleeved vests he seemed to wake at night due to being cold. We don't use blankets at night as he normally does a 360 in his sleep!

My son's room always drops a couple of degrees overnight so I like it to be around 20 degrees when I put him down. In the night when he wakes it's around 18. It fell to 16 degrees one night and i didn't like that, his hands were icy cold ☹️

Long-sleeved vest and 2.5 tog sleeping bag, room around 19-20 degrees. I'm surprised so many people put a sleep suit on as well, but maybe I just have a warm baby.

Top tip; test the zip in the shop! One of ours has a stuff zip which I'm sure you can imagine is a joy with a fast moving wriggly baby 😐

Thanks! I have got myself a thermometer, and last night I reduced the layers. Didn't stop him waking, but he wasn't sweaty. He's now in a sleeveless vest, sleepsuit and one blanket.

To the previous poster - it's not a loose blanket as such we are able to tuck it round the sleepyhead so he is tucked in, but not restricted. We are going to graduate to gro bags soon, I do have a few I haven't yet used. I just didn't want to switch up things too much.

My 10 month old is in a short sleeve vest. Loose cotton jammy bottoms and a summer sleeping bag. But she is surrounded by lots of pillows and my massive duvet. And sleeps in my bed.

Need to get DD a winter sleeping/gro bag but they're so expensive. I can't afford 20 odd at the moment. Guess I could look on EBay.

His room is normally about 14-15 at night and he wakes cold unless we put the jumper on. Poor dab

Ds is 5 months and seeps with short sleeved vest, sleepsuits and an IKEA sleeping bag (no idea how many togs). Room is usually 17/18 degrees.
His head always gets sweet when hes asleep but his body feels fine. His hands do feel freezing sometimes though but health visitor said its normal.

Sleepsuit and Safe T sleep. House is 22 degrees. Any more and they wake up sweaty.
