Sleep routines..

Interested to hear when others started sleep routines. My lg is 15 weeks and I'm relunctant to put her to sleep alone until she's around six months as per the SIDS advice... but how should we start any kind of routine?

At the moment we sit down and chill on the sofa from about 7pm and she feeds and sleeps on and off and we both go up to bed at 10pm. I'm quite happy doing this as I don't have to do anything else in the evenings and enjoy cuddles. Do others put little ones up to bed alone in the evening at this age?

We did start to around that age even though it's against SIDS advice... she just wouldn't settle with us and was getting extremely over tired. We didn't do bedtime until about 8 or 9 though at that age and weren't up much later! I seem to remember I often ended up in bed that time anyway!

Yes, at around 11/12 weeks DS stopped being able to settle with us in the evening in the lounge with the TV on. So we started a bedtime routine and put him in his Moses basket upstairs with the monitor. Technically yes it is against SIDS advice but it was only for a couple of hours until we went to bed. Later in preparation for moving him to his own room and cot we started putting him to bed in his room, in the Moses basket in the cot. Then when we went to bed we'd bring the basket into our room. That way he got used to his room.

We did a routine, but to suit us and sids recommendations.

It was pretty vague, but basically around 9pm changed baby nappy and washed. Fed baby. Then they slept on us or a sheepskin rug on living room floor. Around 11pm dream fed them in living room, then took to bed with us.

We have a bath routine and into jammies for DS2 at around 7.30 fitting in with toddler DS1s bedtime routine. After that though we bring DS2 back downstairs and let him feed and nap until we go up to bed around 10pm. He's nearly 17 weeks and at this stage DS1 was tucked up in bed at about 7.30 after he showed us he needed a proper bedtime by melting down every night for a week at the same time...but this baby doesn't get as tired in the early evening and therefore we just follow his cues for when it's time for bed. I imagine in the next month things might change, but we'll go along with what we're doing til he's ready. I reckon your baby will let you know when a proper bedtime becomes a necessity.
