If your first dc slept...

I have one dd nearly 6 months. She's has slept an uninterrupted 9 or 10 hours overnight since she was 5 weeks old. She self settles and always has, is a happy smiley baby. I realise that sounds like a gloat but it's not, it's the truth. Sometimes I think she's like this because she was ill for the first week of her life and we weren't able to pick her up.
Anyway, I'm considering number 2. But I'm terrified. This is all I know. Did everyone that had a sleeper for their first have a non sleeper for their second?

Number 2 did. Grin

Number 3 did not Shock

Gardencentregroupie · 15/10/2016 20:32

My mum and sister both had great sleepers first and dreadful sleepers second.

My friend had 2 amazing sleepers in a row - her second was sleeping through the night at 12 weeks when mine still wasn't at 2 years. Another lady I know has 2 excellent sleepers and is expecting a 3rd DC. Unlike my friend she is smug as fuck about her two good sleepers. Luck of the draw, you can't control it. Fingers crossed for you that you get another good one :)

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/10/2016 20:33

Number 1 slept.

Number 2 didn't.

Number 3 really didn't.

confusedlilly · 15/10/2016 20:35

Number 1 slept from 8 weeks.

Number 2 is 6months old and is not a sleeper!! Varies from night to night what will happen. I go to bed preparing for the worst every night lol!

lcoc2015 · 15/10/2016 20:36

No 1 was like yours - no.2 was a twice a night waker til 7 or 8 months. Still can wake a couple if times if teething.i find it difficult but not terribly so but then again shes not a terrible sleeper either. I'm rueing being so smug about no.1!!

TheRedCarWon · 15/10/2016 20:36

My first slept through (7-7) from around 5 weeks old, as well as regular naps through the day and quite quickly fell into an easy and predictable routine for milk.

My 2nd slept through (7-7) from about 3 weeks old. She had reflux though so cried, whimpered and possitted throughout most of the day, every day until she was weaned.

I didn't want to push my luck with a 3rd!

SpaghettiMeatballs · 15/10/2016 20:37

No 1 slept through for 12 hours from 6 weeks.

No 2 still waiting for him to go through the night at 2.5 years.

Luck of the draw.

I have 4 dc and 3 of them slept like that.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 15/10/2016 20:38

Dd1 slept soo well from birth that she got jaundice and I had to wake her up to feed her during the night. Dd2. Well just a nightmare to be honest! Always said if she was first she would have been the only one! You get through it tho. 19 years later and Dd1 is an awful sleeper.

Gardencentregroupie · 15/10/2016 20:44

lcoc2015 your DC2 is a terrific sleeper by DD's standards Grin

jazzandh · 15/10/2016 20:45

DS1 slept from 8 weeks to 12 months

DS2 slept from 12months

Both very early wakers (5.30am) and still are at 6 &12

Littleelffriend · 15/10/2016 20:45

Thanks for all the responses I guess it's just pot luck. No idea what to do Smile

Gardencentregroupie yes she 's not bad probably fairly normal comapred to most babies but terrible compared to my first self settler, who slept 8 to 8 from 6 weeks. I theres lots of reasons we're not planning a 3rd but ine of them is that i think a really bad sleeper would finish me off at my age (41)!!

originalusernamefail · 15/10/2016 20:51

DS1 did 8-8 until he was 2 (different story now - under investigation for ASD).

DS2 wakes up to a mouse fart and much prefers to nap in the sling. Wakes 2-3 times a night at 9 months.

So chalk and cheese!

Liskee · 15/10/2016 21:46

No 1 mostly slept through when he was about 7 months. No 2 shows no sign on doing it any earlier...he's 3.5 months and hasn't slept longer than 4 hours in one stretch so far. Not hideous but not brilliant either :/

FurryGiraffe · 15/10/2016 22:01

DS1 did 12 hours a night at 12 weeks. And he was EBF. His sleep went to pot when he was 18 months. He rarely sleeps through the night now and he's 3.5. You have to take your chances I'm afraid.

Mrscog · 15/10/2016 22:05

Ds1 slept fairly consistently from 5 months and before that slowly improved (for instance did 1-5am consistently from 5 weeks, I found that if I was getting sleep during those 4 hours with a couple of hours before and after tacked on it wasn't too bad).

DS2 was an amazing sleeper....until 6 months. It's gone to shit since then 18 months and hasn't slept through for a year!

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 15/10/2016 22:12

Other way around. First was not a good sleeper, baby twins sleep really well (so far). All I can say is it's nothing to do with me! First baby had bad reflux which prevented him sleeping well but when he got over that he just still didn't sleep well until he was 2.

I'd say if you're going to have a baby you should plan for the utter devastation of sleep deprivation. Anything else is a nice surprise.

Mummyshortlegz · 15/10/2016 22:13

Both slept 7-7 from 8/9 weeks.
