Getting children to sleep with no dummies

Hi all we have decided to get rid of the dummy and my little girl is happy without throughout the day and when asleep we have the issue of settling her without it we have music play and lights and she still screams I don't like the thought of leaving her screaming any one have any ideas that could help us !

How old is she?

My oldest didn't do away with her dummy until she was nearly 5.

She is only 2 1/2 but I wanted it to go before she got older she hasn't been having it through the day for a while now so I fought she would be fine without it at bed as she still has her taggies.

My DD had a dummy and she would spit it out every bloody night at least twice and I'd have to and put it back in. The month before mat leave ended I'd had enough.
We didn't give her a dummy at bed time and my DH went in every 5 minutes overnight to rub her back and reassure her.
That was it, one night and she never needed again.
I might hire him out.

She used to sleep most of the night without hers and she didn't wake up at night for it she sleeps well but the issue is at bedtime getting her to sleep with it I feel like we have tried everything :/

We got rid of ours over Easter when my dd was 3.5yo. We did a ton on prep with her. Like months and months of reading about dummy fairies, talking about them, the elves came at Christmas to help with during the day.

Eventually one day she just announced that she was going to give all her dummies away.

It took months and months of gentle support - sitting in her room, sitting outside her room, sitting on the step and so on.

She was emotionally ready but we had a hard time breaking the habit.

The fairy left her a gift and a certificate as well. That helped ease the blow a bit

Yeah we did a fairy. Ab and we spoke about it loads for a good few months and she was happy with her toys on the morning she is getting better but we have an hour of screaming on and off we have to sit in a room with her on my lap or laying on the floor with her bedding (her choice) she doesn't mention no more maybe once just hard work.

Dummy fairy here too! 2nd night here and we've had no fuss.
Like your DD, she only had it in bed. Baby brother has just come along so it was time for hers to go. Last night she put her dummy by the fairy door we've superglued to the skirting board (we hadn't mentioned it before bedtime last night), and this morning the fairy had left a play doh activity pack and a letter!
We're going to put one tub of play doh by the door for the next 4 days.
Tonight she went to bed without even mentioning it.

I think it may just have to be that way for a while. My dd wept at bedtime for months - she was knackered and begging for the dummy. She just needed lots of comfort and reassurance. Weirdly she now refuses to have any of the lights turned off. I am fine with that at the moment frankly.

6 months on I would say she never ever talks about the dummy anymore other than laughing a bit when she sees pictures of herself with it. No problems at bedtime

Isn't it interesting how differently they all manage? We tried at Christmas having been absolutely promised that she would be so exhausted from all the excitement that she would fall straight to sleep no hassle - fat chance!
