Do you need to be able to see baby?

Obviously my little girl is sleeping next to my bed in her moses basket as she is only 3 weeks old but ive been leaving the hall light on and the door slightly open so i can see her. Is this necessary?

No harm done with a bit of light.

There are other ways to check though. In the dark I would put my hand on her chest then run it around her mouth to check she was breathing and hadn't been sick.

It's not necessary, but if it reassures you to be able to see her then no problem with doing it.

I never left a light on as I sleep better in the dark, but I could hear her snuffling/breathing and would put a hand on her chest as dust mentions.

It's entirely up to you! With ds, pfb we stayed awake for the first 11 days. Honestly! One of us was awake, downstairs holding him in shifts for 11 days! Then we had a couple of days holding him awake but in our bed with a lamp and the radio on before actually putting him in his moses with the lamp on!! With dd she was in bed with us, light off from day one.

Do what makes you happy and comfortable my room isn't that dark as street lights outside so I can half see her anyway. I would also gently put my hand on her tummy to check her every now and then. We also have an angel care breathing monitor which I find incredibly reassuring. A light night light will do no one any harm.

I didn't bother with light but had a battery powered nightlight that I turned on when he woke for a feed so I could see enough. There's no right or wrong way, do what works for you!

It's up to you. We used to have a nightlight on in our rom all night, so I could see DS. Then when he was 3 months old we went away and didn't have the nightlight. But found he slept a lot better in the dark! So we got rid of the nightlight at home.

Now I use the light from the home screen goes n my phone to check on him.
