Confused by afternoon napping

My DS is just over 7 months. He's not in a set routine with his daytime naps. When we're at home he settles for 2 naps a day by if we go anywhere it throws out his naps as he's very nosey and sociable and won't settle as he's looking about too much! I find myself still trying to get him to nap as late as 4.30pm sometime which is effecting his feed and then bed time. Any suggestions on what time should be the last nap and what I should do if he refuses to nap!

DS2 has never really been in a routine with daytime sleep, similar to you, it really depends what we're doing in the day. When he still needed a second nap I would let him have it at 430, there would be no way to keep him awake till bedtime but I would only let him have about 40 mins. He's never really had a set bedtime either but any sleeping after 6 ish and it would be late.
