10 minutes after she falls asleep she wakes up and stares at me and I can feel myself die a little more inside.

Aw. Just remember you are her whole world and she's just checking to make sure you're still there.

I do feel your pain though- I've an 8 week old mooching beside me. She likes to awaken fully at 3am for an hour or two.

Things will get better. Are you on your own with her or do you have someone who can give you a break, let you have a long soak in the bath?

Mine is almost seven months. I co-sleep and gave given up anything and everything two handed. He's peeping at me now from under my boob. It's difficult to take the compliment graciously.

She is 15 weeks (8 weeks corrected). She is generally fast asleep at this time but she's got a cold and it's thrown everything out. DH tried to give her a bottle earlier so I could do DD1s bedtime and she refused it and screamed throughout. As soon as I took her and fed her she settled which made me feel amazing and exhausted in equal measure.

Because babies are dicks.

It's why nature designed them to be so cute and have such ridiculously big eyes and chubby faces because you'd go fucking bat shit if not.

But anyway it doesn't last forever a long long long time, but not forever

I'm just coming out the other side (22 month DD2 is just starting to sleep through) so only came on to offer sympathy and to say, Hawk that is the cutest image!!

I've been shouting exactly that question in my own head for the past couple of hours OP, I feel your pain.
I have a velcro baby, 7weeks old, sleeps in my arms or on my chest, I put him in his basket, dare to lie down myself and shut my eyes (ah, blessed peace) and then 5 minutes later the screaming starts. I pick him up, soothe him, he goes to sleep, I put him in his basket and the cycle starts again.... You'll find me sobbing by the Moses basket at 5am as usual and begging the little sod to sleep. Sigh.

You poor things- you and your little snotser.

DD had a cold last week and it was hell. Just as she was dropping off the snot would shift and block her nose and she be awake again all cross and caught. It's shite. I ended up having her sleep on my chest a good deal. Also found wet wipes good for enticing snot our of tiny nostrils.

I also planned for zero night time sleep by bringing up earphones and iPhone to bed (for Netflix), bottle of water, some snacks, and getting in any and all opportunities to nap during the day.

Hope she gets through it soon. Hand-hold, sympathy, gin etc

Maybe there is a conspiracy tonight... mine has been pretty much attached to my boobs since about 5pm when I decided that at the end of that feed I was having a bath before dinner (midwives orders, not a lovely bubble bath soak!) - he got so hysterical DH brought him to join my bath. I then ate dinner one handed and pretty much fed constantly until 9.30 when I attempted to go to bed leaving him with DH again. He shouted a lot, drank the entirety of the expressed milk (not much to be fair) I'd left him in the hope of getting a stretch of sleep, filled multiple nappies while DH attempted to change him and was presented back to me, still shouting for boob just over an hour later.
He's spent about 40 mins doing pathetic kitten like lapping and has finally fallen asleep and given it up!
I can guarantee that if I try to move him off my chest there will be tantrums again.
To be fair he's only 2.5 weeks old and if this is him moving his cluster feed to the evening rather than the middle of the night I'll be thrilled!!
He's also absurdly cute so he's forgiven already!

I have one of those Velcro non sleeping types. In fact I have two. The older one is nearly four and blessed be to the night time gods, she goes to bed and sleeps.

The other is 10 months and the pudgy little beast is thrashing around poking her fingers in my nose, whilst latched on as I type.

I know they sleep eventually but it's the pits when you're up all night with the buggars.

Has anyone checked if it's a full moon tonight?

Just came up to bed with her - we're co-sleeping because it's the only way she'll bloody sleep. I laid her down next to me and she did the wide eyed thing again. She's fucking adorable but even adorable things need to sleep. HEAR THAR ADORABLE THING - GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP (by the way, if you haven't read the book called this you really should).

some just don't. HTH. it is a really good job they're cute- at the point you are about to throw them out the window they learn to smile and that buys them another 3 months or so without defenestration...

I have a 6 week old lying next to me in her moses basket who has just learnt to coo. I don't mind but she wants feeding every 3 hours the more she chats the less sleep she will get.

DD1 was an absolute shit sleeper. I was convinced it was all our fault as after 9 weeks in NICU we just held her all day and all night and then she hated the cot. But we tried this exact opposite this time and DD2 hates her cot too! Apparently, some babies are just shit at sleeping!

I know you are tired, but please....don't ever talk like that about your baby.

I was also childless for many years before intervention. It has fuck all to do with a newborn who isn't reading MN though and it doesn't stop a woman from being at breaking point from exhaustion.

'Why the shitting fuck won't this baby sleep' is not in anyway insulting the baby anyway. It's asking why the baby won't sleep while also swearing. The only thing she called the baby was adorable.

Thanks Hamster. I didn't mean anything against my children AT ALL. And a lot of my comments are lighthearted. But sometimes you do reach breaking point and writing it down and being a told you're not alone can help to release that frustration.

I didn't have difficulty conceiving but I almost lost my first daughter in NICU and it makes you realise how completely previous they are. It doesn't mean I don't get frustrated sometimes though. Maybe that makes me a bad mum or maybe I'm just human.

maybethedayafter I'm sitting here in hysterics and I've temporarily forgotten the rubbish sleep I had last night. My LO is driving me crazy. He's seven months next week. He won't sleep in his cot. He wakes in the night so I have to make him a bottle. Then I put him down then he starts fussing. I pick him up cuddle him put him down.....pick him up put him down and so the saga continues until he finally goes to sleep IN MY BED. I posted on here few weeks back about how to get him back to his cot. Well let's just say it ain't working. . Tired is not even the word. I try and nap with him when he naps in the afternoon but its just a waste of time. I feel your pain
