Being wibbly about baby moving to own room; talk me down :o

Hello there

For some reason I'm going off my head about my DD moving to her own room tonight.

-She's 7 months
-We just moved house today
-She has a raging cold and a bit of a temperature

I know it's a silly way to be but how do you guys cope when your baby is ill and you're not in the same room as them?

We have a monitor etc but I know I'll be up and down freaking about her breathing.

She's also been checked by the GP yesterday and she's just got a heavy cold. No more than that.

I'm being a plonker, just someone tell me it'll all be JUST FINE

DD didn't have her own room til 15m and if she was ill she'd probably end up in with us (nearly 2).

DS was the same over a year until his own room.

Sorry that doesn't help does it? But if you're worried about her could she go in your room? Is there a reason why not?

I would also just keep her in with me. I think your feelings are completely understandable and I would feel the same.

It would all be fine. But if you know you'll worry because of her cold then why not just keep her in with you till it clears? For your sake rather than hers, but there's nothing wrong with that.

If you're really concerned, keep her in your room until the cold is over as you will worry about it. When she's all better move her to her room. We moved dd when she was a little over 4 months as she filled her moses basket and was just too warm in her moses basket (really hot spell). She slept fine, we all slept better in between wakings actually. When they are ill make sure you have a nightlight, comfy chair and plenty of charge in your phone!

I slept on a pull out mattress on the floor in dd's room for the first month after she moved in - she was 7 months.

Oh goodness, thanks for replying folks; I thought this would fall into the abyss!

The new place has such nippy dimensions that we can't move her cot into our room anymore - she would block the door

I've had anxiety about her well being since she was born and I know that this is mostly all in the mind but I suppose I'm asking when the feeling of - basically - fear that you'll miss baby not breathing or something goes away?

I know someone who plonked her baby in his own room when he was 8 weeks old and I didn't bat an eyelid fgs

I kept DS1 in with us till 6 months and the first few nights after he moved into his own room did feel strange - he still seemed so little to be in his very own room all by himself! But then it quickly became the new normal and I didn't worry any more. I can completely understand it feels like a big step, but it is just one of many small steps towards independence from you that are part of growing up.

I think for me the fear started to ease at 12mnths when the statistics say the risk of SIDS decreases. That said I do still go and check they're breathing from time to time and they are now 5 and 2!
