What the fuck has happened to bedtime??

For the last 3 nights our 11 month old DS has refused to go to sleep.

He's had a 7pm bedtime since he was 3 months, we've kept the same routine, same cot, same room, same comforter, etc... Nothing has changed.

He's not showing pain or discomfort, he's just wide awake!!

Saturday night I stood by his cot for 3 hours shushing. Every time I attempted to leave the room he cried. I hovered in the doorway so he could only see my arm and was happily pissing about in his cot, if I moved a mm out of sight he'd cry.
Last night DH gave up and brought him downstairs and watch to until 9.
Tonight (we're two hours ahead) he seemed tired and sleepy at 7, DH put him in his cot very nearly asleep and the second his arse touched the mattress PING wide awake. It's 8pm and I'm cuddling him in the rocking chair, he's asleep but every time I most to get up a beady eye opens!!!

Help! I don't want to get into bad bedtime habits but I don't know what's going on.

Well you're in the prime time for separation anxiety so that probably contributes to it. What are his nap times like?

For what it's worth, every time I think we've got our son's sleep sorted out something will mess it up again. Hope things improve soon

His naps have been a bit off for the past four weeks because of a sickness bug and teething. I've almost got him back to his 45 minutes in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon... But the naps have been all over for four weeks, this palaver has only been three days!

I know it's only three days but I just don't want to do something now that'll mess his bedtime up FOREVER!!

Try not to fret I had the same with my DD & I ended up deciding to cut her naps to just one long one after lunch when she was around 11mths old which worked a treat. She would go 2 hrs + until recently (21mth old) I've had to cut it down to max of 1.5hrs as she was creating at bedtime again & screaming as she clearly wasn't tired enough which wasn't like her she's always really good at going down normally. Hope this helps.

I was thinking we might have to drop the morning nap now. Especially as I want him in crèche two half days a week from next month.

But... But... It's so very convenient for cleaning the breakfast things and getting ready or just drinking lots of tea.

How do you keep a baby awake and avoid mardybumitis?

It was funny at first DD was practically falling asleep at the lunch table but I did an early lunch 11.30 & still do sometimes. She was pretty good really not too cranky & I'm lucky I've got open plan living so can get on with tidying up whilst she's playing. I was amazed how quickly she got used to it although for a while when we went out too near lunch I had to keep her going in the car. Now it's so lovely having that big chunk of time to get things done then have a bit of ME time I'm going to miss it. I found it freed me up for more morning meet ups & clubs first thing which kept her going.

I've stuck his tired face in front of In the Night Garden on YouTube. We're going out to a baby group for an hour in a bit and I'm hoping that'll see him through to an early lunch. He's a bit whiny but easily distracted.

Good luck I hope it helps. I got my DD to eat sweet potato mash for a bit at lunch shovelled if in before she conked out. It took her a while to go up to 2+ hours but not long. Fingers crossed & keep me posted

Tjis sounds good, this is what I want my boy to do..

It's been a whiny couple of days but he's had teeth pushing through as well as nap dropping.
He didn't sleep well last night because of teeth so I just had a cuddle to see if he wants a morning nap and he's refused.

Everyone keeps telling me to he'll be fine after a week.

How old is your DS piesoclock? Are you going to give it a go?

How long has he been napping for & when is he going down for his nap bigfriendly? It does get better shame he's cutting a tooth too.
