16 month old waking screaming crying

My 16 month old has woke up for the past 2 nights at about 4-5am and started to cry hysterically, he still continues if I hold him and he just wants to get away from me, this goes on for twenty minutes, its really frustrating and upsetting. What could
it be? He had been getting molars through lately but his teeth have never bothered him that much, or could he be having a nightmare? U would think me holding him would comfort him then tho ?

Could be molars, they're v painful, or night terrors

It could be, preventative callow at bedtime may help if it's teeth.

DD is like this, and had been since a young age. It is night terrors with her as its gone on for years If we leave her she continues until the point of vomit, we found the best thing was to wake her up. Short sharp cold flannel to the back of the neck, the minute she's awake she'll settle straight back to sleep.

Calpol not callow.
