Bedtime for an 8-year-old?

Hi

First, I hope it's okay to post about older children's sleep on this page?

I'm wondering what bedtime fellow parents set for their 8-year-olds?

Our 8.5-year-old DD has an official bedtime of 7.45 (later on weekends) but she is often still awake at 9 or even 10 pm... And then she's usually awake between 6 and 7 the next morning.

I'd appreciate hearing what bedtime other parents of similar-age children set?

Thank you in advance ;-)

DS, same age, has an official bedtime of 8 on school night. He has recently persuaded me that he should be allowed to read if he doesn't feel sleepy, so he is allowed to do that until 8.30. It tends to slip to more like 9 during the holidays though. I don't worry about it too much, unless he seems tired and grumpy.
