DD (20 months) is naturally a great sleeper but recently she's begun to wake in the night and is inconsolable. Her speech is good enough to be able to tell me what's wrong but she says nothing, just screams. I cant get a word out of her.
I dont think she having nightmares as it's happened every night for a good while now.

Could she be just testing me to see how far she can push her luck?

How many times is she waking?

Lilypie · 23/01/2007 22:27

Between 1am and 3am she wakes up first then wont settle for 2-3 hours

DS went through something similar at that age - how long has it been going on for? Has there been any recent disruptions? In our case it was a couple of weeks and then it seemed to peter out. It's very frustrating and draining. We realised that he was trying to cut down his daysleep a bit but also that in general he was starting to suffer with nightmares and a few night terrors. We just took it in turns to go in, leaving it a bit longer each time and just soothing/singing/cuddling to reassure and gradually this seemed to ease things. There imagination does start to really kick in around 2 and they start dealing with things in their sleep like we do and that can culminate in nightmare or generally unsettled sleep.

I think count's right, night terrors do start to strike at this age, unfortunately. Hopefully it will get better soon. Sympathy..

Been going on 4 a few weeks.
If I can get a word out of her at all she says "stairs" which means she wants to go downstairs or "birdies" which is a cartoon on the Monsters Inc DVD that she loves.
I wonder if she's just bored of sleeping and wants a bit of entertainment... when I dont comply and tell her its sleepy time she sometimes hits me or pulls on my hair, behavious I've never seen from her and it really upsets me.
Could this just be the terrible twos starting a bit early?
