6 month boy awake at 5 am

Hello!
Does anyone have any suggestions for encouraging my six-month old to sleep past 5am? He wakes religiously, presumably just ready to get up. Most nights (19 out of 20) we get him back to sleep after about an hour, with a mixture of leaving to howl and cuddling. He's not in pain, or hungry, or cold, or over-warm. Some nights he will happily sleep through till 7, so I know he can do it. I won't do sleepy feeds or anything like that - he definitely isn't hungry. Should I put him down later (he goes at 7am, completely knackered)? Ignore him? Ignore the clock and get up anyway? Very tired now, so any help much appreciated.

do you mean pm?

ds used to go to bed at 6 and started waking up at 5 sometimes as well. in the end i started putting him to bed at 7:30 - 8. for the first few days he was tired by 5:30pm cos he was still waking at 6am. but then after those first few days he started sleeping the original 12 hours after 8pm so was getting the same amount of sleep/awake time as before iyswim.

Some children are just earlier wakers! Mine still both usually wake between 5am and 6am, but the difference now is that they are older enough to play quietly and not bother me.

I almost don't want to post for fear of jinxing it but my ds (7.5 mo) was exactly the same (waking at 5am, sometimes earlier, he had slept through till 7am only on the odd occasion, very tired by 7pm in the evening etc) - until last week.

He is currently sleeping through till at least 6:30. Even if he wakes at 6:30 he quietly chats to himself until we come and get him up at 7.

I'm just hoping it lasts - suspect it will all go to pot though when the next tooth comes through or he gets another cold!

OK, well hope springs eternal I guess. We are keeping him up later tonight (even though his eyes are already out on stalks) and will persevere with encouraging him to stay put till 7. Good luck WeaselMum - I hope your little one keeps it up.
Thanks for the help!
M

How long are his day time naps? He should need about 3 hours in total.
